Relocated the Front Plate

Well, since yesterday after finding out that someone hit my bumper, I always got irritated whenever I went outside and saw that exposed gash in my bumper. So I decided to go to Home Depot and get some Self Tapping Screws and relocated the plate on the bumper. The plate holder is a bit fugged up, which is why the holder is leaning down in all the pictures.

Excuse the bad pictures, they're camera phone pictures again.

The plate was bent up like crazy, so I bent it back out into shape this morning, and the plate holder, well lets just say im gonna get a new one from the stealership soon.

But for now, I'm back in business.

It looks like crap IMO, and it doesent even look level.

Well if you read my other ranting thread and read that one line at the beginning, you'll know it's leaning because someone backed into my car, bent my plate along with the plate holder. It'll be level when I get a new plate holder. In my own opinion I know it looks like crap, but I don't want to expose a nice deep scratch either.

i dunno it just doenst look right when its not centered. It looks good on a evo but just not right on a tsx imo.

if it was me ill rather have the scratch exposed .. but thats just me.

You should fix the scratch anyway. You'll know it's there, and maybe it'll rust or something.

Watch it happens again and now you have two scratches to try and cover up...

Oh no worries. I'm not diggin' the look as it is either, and the scratch is definitely getting fixed. I cannot live with scratches or any disformation on my car. The plate will be centered once I get a new plate holder, but for now, it's going to stay as is.

I think mounted under the bumper might look better, like this:

You can see how it looks on my 06 here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...elocated+plate

The way mine is....the top of the plate is as close to the top of the gap as possible, and the plate is vertically straight (exactly 90 degrees perpendicular to the street). With this setup, the bottom of the plate covers the bottom portion of the bumper. It's ok though, because I put foam pads there and the plate is very rigid.

The way I mounted my plate, I can probably adjust it up and down a couple of degrees. I think I'd rather trim the top and bottom of my plate and just stick the plate inside the gap, but I'd need to put a mesh grille in first

I relocated my plate because of all the posts that said that the plate holder rubs against the bumper and takes off some paint

What will you do with the holes you put in the bumper for the plate?

Looks okay......good idea that if it worked (ala Evo) it would look pretty darn cool.

Good luck with the scratch fix

That would suggest he screwed his license plate into something. If not the bumper, then what? No drill, but still holes. I hope he didn't actually screw into his bumper!

Indeed I did use a small half inch self tapping screw. So there is a small hole in the plastic part of the bumper. I don't mind it at all, considering if it's not metal, I'm not worried about it. LIke I said, I appreciate all the comments, but I'm going to get this fixed, because I'm getting a lot of eyeballing like I'm some sort of a street racer

New plateholder to come in on Monday. Thanks guys.

You might as well have left the plate off. Someone hit/messed up your plate, so if you get pulled over you'll have an excuse...

Quite a lame excuse if you ask me. Like I said, the scratches are there, but that's no reason to take off the plateholder when it still holds on with the bolts. I don't have the patience to deal with cops these days.

Quite a lame excuse to relocate your plates off-center because someone bumped it. Either leave it alone until it's fixed, or take it off and keep it in the car to show the cops if you do get pulled over. They usually won't pull you over unless you do something wrong like cross a red light, and it's only after that that they'll get you for your plate. So do you drive wrecklessly?

Boo hoo, someone messed up your plate, so now you have to go in and make a hole for your "half inch self tapping screw".

Personally I don't care that there's a small "hole" in my bumper where you can't even see it, but when it's exposed right in the front, I care. IMO, you should shut up because I had it fixed anyway. Go boo hoo yourself.

I have to say I can't understand the logic of putting holes in the plastic part of your bumper to cover up a scratch in the plastic part of your bumper because you can't stand knowing there's damage. Especially since the hole is only for a temporary "solution" (and I use that term very loosely). You say you have to get your bumper fixed because you can't stand knowing there's a scratch, whether it's covered or not; yet you can stand having an uncovered hole? It baffles me.

Anyway, it doesn't matter in the end, since you seem happy with it. As for the relocation, eh, I'm not a fan. It looks a little odd being just slightly off-centre while not being fully to one side.
