My TSX on Civic wheels

Just had these installed this evening. They are '04 Civic Si wheels and 215/55 16 Dunlop Winter Sport M3's. Can't comment much on the ride as I have only put about 20 miles on them. We are supposed to get snow this weekend so I'll get a chance to really try them out.

What do you think? I'll take a better pic tomorrow outside.

Nice! That's a pretty agressive tread on the M3's... should be good in deep snow.

This is the best I can do with it in the garage. I'll take a better one outside tomorrow.

that is def. original. i didn't even know the ep3's were 5 lug. so i guess i could sell my stockers to ep3s.

i wouldnt mind trading mine for some 04 tl type s wheels. maybe i should post that in the tl and cl forums....

i'll think about it.

That looks a lot better than all of the Euro Accords around here with black steel wheels (for those that bother to change to snows).

So now that the 04's come with a 5 lug, does that mean they will have the EP3R wheels as the factory performance option? I really want those wheels for my Type-S

You can compensate for 16" rims by getting tires with taller sidewalls.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

The stock TSX comes with 215 50 17's

According to this calculator it shows that the speedo is .6% fast so when the speedo says 60 hes actually going 59.6 with 215 55 16s

Using my ghetto math estimates that comes out to
1660 actual miles
1678 miles on speedo

Which isnt too bad at all.

Problem with putting your snow's on semi nice rims like you've done, is that people may think those are the rims that belong on the car.

I've already had two people ask me if my wheel covers flew off since I put my steelies on. Wheek Covers !!?? On a TSX

Holy aspect ratio, Batman! Look at that meat on those tires.

Oh, and it's a good move for a snow setup. Especially swapping out the center caps.

just out of curiosity, but ive lived in the northeast my entire life and have never once put snow tires on a car that has all season tires. I dont understand really, if theyre all season, doesnt that omit the need to swap tires like you had to do years and years and years ago? I mean technically I just try to NOT drive in the snow out of fear of sliding, so even if I have snow tires on im not going to attempt to go faster. I understand how they could help with traction and I probably SHOULD get them, but am i the only one who doesnt do this?

I don't either. I think it's more commons not to change out the tires if you have all-seasons.

Haven't done it either in over 10 years of winter driving, with no problems to report. Granted, I don't try to drive as aggressively as I do when there's no snow - I just adjust to suit the driving conditions on the same all-season tires.

All seasons are a compromise in all seasons. They're adequate for driving in just about any condition but they really don't excel in any one.

If you're not getting winter tires for financial reasons, you should reconsider. You split the mileage between both sets so they'll last longer than your all seasons. The total cost per mile over the life of your vehicle will be very similar but you'll be driving on the best possible tire for every condition.

Well worth the initial investment if you ask me.

People gripe about the stock tires on the TSX but aside from tending to squeal early around corners, they handled the snowstorm we had the day before turkey day really well.

Unless you live in a place like per se buffalo NY where you get an assload of snow, it might be worth it..

Or if you're like my friend who upgraded his tires to high performance summer tires, he cant drive those in the snow so in early nov he switches to steels and winter tires.

So IMHO if you keep your stock tires you really dont need to get snow tires

I ran with the all-season's last winter and this is my first set of winter tires ever. My reason is exactly what Dan said... It's really not an added expense, and in a way it saves me because 16" tires are for the most part cheaper. The wheels cost me $169. In my eyes, that's my only expense. And well worth it for the safety of them. And now I can also run summer tires when my stock tires wear out.

Another savings I have now is when I head to the ski hill (2 hours away) in a snow storm, now I can take the car instead of taking my V8 4Runner at 16 MPG.

Well worth it IMO.

So the Civic 16" clear the brakes without any issues?

I have a set of 215-55-16 Goodyear ice grips that are almost brand new I'd love to run on the TSX for the winter.

Do stock tires really go out that bad in the snow? I don't think I'll be driving my car at all this winter. Not because I'm scared of the snow or anything but I'll be on vacation for a while..

The first year I had the stock wheels/tires on and it was okay. The tires only had a few thousand miles on them. This year I hit the first big storm before I got these and my VSA was kicking in all the time. I can't comment on these yet because since I got them we haven't had any snow.
