Well I bought one of those clear license plate cover and painted it black. Will I get pull over just because I covered the word "california" the the front?

I don't think the authorities will like it too much, but if the rear is present, shouldn't be a problem.

Don't know about California, but here in Oregon you'll get pulled over.
I had mine on the front windshield, and cop pulled me over and just gave me a warning. They say licenses needs to be visible and located farthest of a vehicle, which means front and rear bumper. My frined got a ticket for having a tinted plate protector.

Yeah california is very strict on these things... so I don't know if I will be ok with this on. If not I will have to remove the cover out.

If they want to... Yes. You then open the door to what ever they want to do to you next.

sorry to ask this here, but I'm in CA also, and i took off the front plate. Did anyone ever get pull over for that? I know it's "illegal", but so is front window tint.

I've had mine off since last July and still haven't gotten a ticket. It's a risk but I've been pulled over since then and the officer didn't notice it.

I've known many people who have been pulled over and cited and then some for not having a front plate in CA. As I said above it gives the guys with a badge a free pass to fuck with you. If not having a front plate on is more important to you than giving a stranger with a gun and badge (the law) the lawful right to unload all sorts of shit on you then by all means, have at. Just remember... you've been warned!!!

BTW - If you put tint on the front just don't be stupid and go limo grade. That and a missing front plate is like saying F-U to a cop with an attitude. Another tip if you're still reading this is that if you DO get pulled over when it's the least bit dark outside, esp. if you have tinted windows, turn on you inside lights and keep your hands where the man can see them. That will get you off on the right foot when he can tell that you're concerned with his safety, etc. BTW in CA getting a DUI will now cost you about $2,500.00+ not to mention (depending on your age) doubling or more your insurance rate and taking a big hit on your credit rating. I know it's not fair but that's the way things are today.

P.S. - I know someone who's sitting in jail right now as I right this because he was riding with a guy who did something dumb in front of a cop and got pulled over. Something from his past came up and bit him in the ass thanks to the actions of someone else and guess what? He can't make bail, so... It can happen.

SFPD or CHP? Most CHP will hand you the yellow slip.

It's not fair?!? $2K for a DUI infraction is dirt cheap. You should lose your license permanently on the first infraction. But this is not a DUI thread so I digress...

My friend didnt have his plate on the front and got a ticket for it.....and he wasnt even in the car. It was parked in front of his house !!

so i think on any given day, if a cop feels like it. He'll do it, so I'm thinkin the missing CALI is gonna pose a potential problemo

Well I just want everyone to know it's my car . I'm just being a proud TSXer. I didn't know what to put on top there, and that's what came to my mind that night when I put in my order for the frame.

I think the reason why I want to do that is I want to have that European license plate style. I probably leave it the way it is for now until something happen. It does look better outside in person.

you've got too much lettering in the back...why two mugen stickers? I dont really see a need for it as u only have a oem front and mudflaps on all for corners.

without the mugen decal it looks kind of plain after debadging, so I tried to find some chinese letters to put it there, but no luck, so I ended up buying the mugen decal. I know it's kind of wrong to do that, but it's very small so not everyone will see it.

I 've seen your car at Autobacs couple months ago, and I put a nice complement note on your car. Looks good! I really like the vietnamese words you put on the back, really stand out and meaningfull. Don't really know what you did with the license plate is illegal or not, but IMO, as long as you have the plate in front, then it should be ok. I bent the front plate so that it can fit inside the lower grill of my TL and I pass by local cops, CHP almost everyday without any problem.

You should come out to the Azine meet sometimes!

It is illegal

I asked my brother in law, who is a cop in California and he said it is defintiely illegal. He also said it is illegal to have anything covering your plates, even a clear plastic cover.

Thanks LacViet,
At first I thought I was getting a ticket or something when I got back to my car. But it was surprise to see someone actually would spend the time to write somethind down about my car. Today I was riding behind a motocycle cop, he doesn't say anything probably because they don't spend time looking at the license plate of every car on the street. To play it safe, maybe I will get a sticker with the word "california" and stick it on there haha...

Thanks for letting me know though. I will be more careful. For those who doesn't know what those words "cong cha nghia me" stands for ... it's a way I say thank you to my mom and dad. I know some people would think it's lame and all that, but I have my own reason behind it. I'm not ashame of being who I am.
I'm 23 years old. Just graduated a year + ago.
Now I was able to get a good job, paid for my own car in a year (got my certificate of title a month ago), and just bought a house hehe...

ha ha, I almost went away without writting anything down on that day, but I admire you for putting those words on! It's your ride, do what you feel fit! Keep up the good work!

Yeah I have several friends who are cops in CA, the law reads you cannot have ANYTHING over your plates, even if its transparent.

In fact, I think having something like he has over his plates will draw more attention than no front plate, because lots of people don't have a front plate, its just this guy who has crazy blacked out plates and too many stickers. Its tacky, so its going to draw attention, which includes attention from cops.

I'd say you're really asking for it. Why mess around? Cops love a good reason to pull someone over, and that's exactly what that is...a good reason.
