Keeping One Car Clean in Winter is Difficult, but Two...

The dirty roads, not much sun et all meant that I hadn't had the occasion of taking a good picture of the family basking in the sunlight until now.

I finally got around to washing them both and actually make it back home without getting them all dirty again.

So here, I present you my expanded family:

The Smart is an absolute blast to drive around with.

What's the mileage on the TSX, sauceman? Is the Sig up-to-date?

Cool ride!

BTW, StreetSpirit and I are in Quebec City right now and it's freakin freezing over here! I know I would have no desire to keep my cars clean if it was like this back home.

Edit: Just realized my last sentence made no sense whatsoever. Fixed...

Now what would happen if those were pics taken moments before a crash like that, the TSX t-boning the Smart. What would the result be? I could never own a car like that.

Yeah, it's pretty much up-to-date, I'm actually at 223,000km. Washing the car yesterday let me notice that so far all of my touch-ups from last year's crop of rock chips are holding up perfectly. I see I have another crop coming up for this spring though..

Cool! What brought you two there during the bitter months of winter? I live 2 hours from there and I'm always shocked at how cold it is when I get back there, with the windchill and the humidity.

So maybe you drove right by where I used to live way back then. I used to dream of moving to Quebec City when I was a kid, and after a few years of living there I realised QC City is much more attractive when you visit as a tourist, so now that I don't live there anymore, I appreciate it more when I go visit.

That being said, I need to drive there to show the Smart to my parents, they still haven't seen it. Shame on me.

Well, being uninformed is often what keeps one from many an enjoyment.

I was gonna give you the whole spiel on how the car was safe and all that, but actually, they give out a lot more complete info on the crash tests performed on the MB site: http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/mbccusto...fety/event.cfm

I saw the Smart used by Transport Canada for crash tests, the one you probably saw from the download. They also performed side and rear impact on the same car. Here's how the Smart looked:

All doors could still open and close, the front windshield was cracked, and there was not a single crack on the glass rooftop. That is how solid this car is.

I think it was Brabus or AMG that mated two 3cylinder turbo gas engines together to make a V6 and still fit it in the tiny enigne bay. Yeah, word is that it was indeed a rocket.

Sort of, yeah. But it's all relative. Any truck driver would at least drive double my mileage per year, and long distance truckers may easily do triple that.

Cool car.....how hard is it to keep the Smart clean though? Just dunk it in a bucket of soapy water, then rinse and dry. Voila!

Just drove here for a 4 day weekend and it's been great. I've been to QC a number of times and it always feels like I've left Canada and entered a part of Europe. It's a great getaway.

The snow here is also insane. Not counting drifts, we've regularly seen 5+ feet of snow on people's lawns and most of that is solid ice now. Today we drove up to the ice hotel and along the way we saw this one house with a snow drift in front that went over the light standards on the street. Seriously 20+ feet. I imagine some of that was from plows but I have never seen a snowbank like that in my life.

I really like your Smart ForTwo. I've been wanting to drive one for some time now. I know I fit in them because I tried it at the autoshow. It would be a great car for the city.

Congrats on the new addition, Sauceman!! Looks great. If you ever have the chance, can you snap me a pic of the 'trunk' space, and under the hood? Just curious. Also, how's the interior? Looks like all the pillars are nice and out of the way for great visibility.

Maxboost, I don't know just how much, but the offset sure is ridiculous for 165 tires!

Dan, next time we meet I'll try and have the Smart so you can try it. I have 5" of clearance over my head, while in the TSX my head scrapes the ceiling.

BTW, in 96, the winter in Qc City beat many records of snowfall. I'll try and find old pictures I got of snow in my street piling up to the roofs of 2-storey appt buildings. People were literally digging tunnels from their car Tempos to their houses. A few people died crushed in their tempos cause the weight of the snow became too heavy. Yeah, I don't want to go back there.

Street Spirit, make sure you're there if and when I see Dan with the Smart. I'll try and snap the shots you asked for tomorrow. The visibility is incredible. Hardly any dead angles. The interior is.. exuberant (if that is an english werd). The car is just such a toy. And we've never turned heads like that with the TSX, ever. I'm always afraid of looking around now because we stick like a sore thumb and everyone is looking and pointing and giving thumbs up, it's sooo funny.

Don't make me start with the French lingo! I'll make it sound telling and interesting, and you'll never know I was just ordering a quarter-chicken dinner!

I was just curious about this pneu phenomenon!

The only reason I can imagine would be that since we're farther up north, and have a lot more snowfall (especially Quebec City!!), there's a lot more business to be made with selling sets of winter tires to almost everyone.

Will they sell that Smart car in the USA soon? That car would be perfect to drive in downtown Chicago where parking is scarce and it would be perfect to parallel park.

How much is that in Canadian and could someone possibly convert that to US dollars?

Mine was 24k CAD on the road for the "Passion" model (fully equipped) and optionned out, because yeah, with Europeans, even if it's fully equipped, it's not fully equipped until you make it fully equipped.

That would work out to about 20K USD as of today. www.xe.com

Although, you guys probably don't have to pay 15.5% sales tax upon purchase of a new car.
