DIY Caliper Painted (Pics)

many ppl use G2 caliper paint, which is about ~36 dollars.

I used Duplicolor Caliper Paint, which is also very good product. Local pepboys and autozones have Duplicolor caliper paint kit for ~ $13.00

comes with cleaner, brush, paint, instruction. pretty much all you need

It took me about 6 hours ,mainly because i only have one OEM car lift. basically i had to do one caliper at a time.

one spray can is perfect for 4 wheels. there's more than enough paint. i think if you buy one kit, you can use one paint can for 4~5 TSX Calipers all around.

bottom part of the front calipers are pretty dirty, and codultn' take the dirt off well even after 10~15 minutes of washing. i guess it's rust or jus dirty - -

painted once, wait 20~25 minutes, another layer coating, wait, and another layer coating. i did about 4 coatings. good red color

no need to take out the caliper. simple, easy

rear calipers

done drying

TSX double wishbone suspensions are awesome

thought Red would show too much, but it's quite good on PWP. especially because i'm painting my rims Black soon.

Easy $13~14 DIY. very satisfied with the result.

whats in the spray can though? you used the brush to paint the calipers right? im guessing its the cleaner?

btw...you should really think about getting a jack. ive spent so much extra time and energy with my stupid oem jack...used it for everything including my entire coilover install, rear sway bar, and changing the wheels a few times. it definitely sucks using that crap. i just bought a cheap $30 walmart floor jack that works great and used it when i was adjusting my coilovers...its not as nice as those professional ones but gets the job done and is worth it.

thanks, yea i was buying microfiber towels for the car wash the other day at K-mart, and those jacks were cheap, durable.

the spray can is a cleaner. it's one of those alcohol dry ice material. spray and use fine towel, but they evaporate fast.
it really leaves clean parts of the caliper really clean, but the "dirty section" of the calipers were still dirty even after much spray + towel used. i just tried a couple more times and started painting. it's no residue or dust, maybe the caliper color (silver) faded or rusted.
anyway, now it looks perfect with 3~4 layers of coating.

Definitely support buying a floorjack. Best $60 (I bought a heavy-duty 3 ton SUV jack, lol) I've spent in terms of making work on my car easier.

And nice calipers. I'm painting mine black on my CGP soon (bought the G2 kit from eBay).

Looks good. I thought about doing black with white Acura letters on mine. I did black on my other cars and like the subtle hidden look. If you ever get aftermarket wheels you'll be able to see the caliper's a lot better I'm betting.

So the spray can is the cleaner that you just sprayed on the caliper and then wiped them down to clean them off? Did you tape off the rotor so you didn't get paint on it or any other parts and then painted them freehand? I am thinking about doing this since you can def see mine but i would probably just paint them black!

I wish the OEM rotors didn't get to rusty looking though

EDIT: Is that sandpaper on the ground too? Did you rough them up a little before or just inbetween coats?

i was thinking the same thing before i did it, and considered buying black caliper kit.
but after it was done, it jus gives subtle color to the car, not so strong. and it's red, so nice.

Looks sweet, I would have sprayed the paint into a bowl and just used a brush on it. Did you wipe your doors and front bumper with a towel yet? and did the towel turn red?

I used the same caliper paint for my tsx.. a year ago. I hope you did a better job than me though.

I used the cleaner and brush the caliper, but what i should have done was either sanded or scotch padded it. a year later the paint is almost all gone. Mind you i have gone through a Montreal winter and salt filled roads but i think if i sanded/scotch padded it before hand they would still be fine.

I have mines red with white ACURA decals, looked pretty sweet.

is the application of the paint just a brush and brushing it onto the caliper? did you use anything to cover the rest of the brakes to avoid getting paint on other areas?

thinking of maybe doing mine black. wouldn't mind those acura decals, either.

Did mine black today with the G2 paint kit. Put the car up on four jackstands, the whole process from masking to cleaning the calipers to painting (3 coats all around) took maybe two hours.

I'll be posting pics tomorrow once I've put my white Acura decals on.

Navy blue would be nice, but the blue G2 kit looks more like a royal blue. Too light for my taste.

Does anybody know what kind of pigment could be added to this type of paint? A dab or two of black added to the blue would be just the ticket.

Think the white car will look good with black rims. Try it out with your car so I can decide.
