Clean Exhaust Tips

I was washing and waxing my car today and decided to do some work on my exhaust tips. I've thought they were dirty since I bought the car but I never got around to cleaning them. Here's a few pics just to show what some time and elbow grease can do.

Just water, soap, and a scotchbright pad. It took a lot of scrubbing, like 20 minutes for one side.

People have a lot of preferred methods for cleaning and polishing exhaust tips. I’ve been using 0000 (extra-fine) steel wool with Noxon metal polish for a good half-dozen years. I probably polish the tips with Noxon a half-dozen times a year. Using steel wool with the Noxon every time seems unnecessary, so I only do that two or three times a year. The rest of the time I just apply the Noxon with a cloth. There’s nothing special about Noxon; any metal polish will do.
A lot of people seem to love a widely available product called Bar Keeper’s Friend. I’ve never tried it. A lot of people also like to use Nevr-Dull wadding; I’ve had a tin of Nevr-Dull for a long time, and I’m sure Nevr-Dull would work pretty well on exhaust tips, but I think a metal polish like Noxon applied with a 0000 steel wool pad would produce the desired results quicker.
I’ve had my ’04 TSX for 8½ years and 116,000 miles and the tips still look, well, not brand new, but amazingly close to it.

Came out very nice.
I like to use fine steel steel wool and a degreaser
Or Bar Keepers Friend if they aren't that bad

I gotta clean mine too. I normally use a degreaser and let it soak a bit then wipe with a microfiber towel.

Looks good! I try and do mine usually once a month with Bar Keepers Friend. Just wet a microfiber, put some BKF on it, and scrub away. Then wipe off the tip completely with a dry portion of the microfiber to remove any excess. Keeps them looking great all the time.
