What Should I Do With The OEM Cat?
I broke-down and had my Comptech header and RT cat installed last week. My recovery from neck surgery hit a snag–so I went ahead and had a shop do it. Enuff with the excuses. So, I can see keeping the OEM header, but that OEM cat sounds like $250 extra bucks in my pocket. Should I 'junkyard' it, save it, open 'er up, put it on ebay? What?

The cat breaks long chain hydrocarbons into shorter more easily oxidized chains. The idea being that dumping unburnt hydrocarbons into the atmosphere is worse than dumping the oxidized results (CO2, CO, assorted nitrides and all the other left over crap you get from burning gas).
They cost a lot to make because they have expensive metals like platinum in the matrix. I certainly wouldn't pay $250 for a used cat though.

i'd probably just hold onto it in the event you ever need to put it back on. the 06+ cat is probably what TSX owners would want more if they wanted the OEM part since it flows better, so maybe you wouldn't get as much for an 05, but i'm more of the cautious type and keep all my stock parts.

I say keep it!
The factory cat is designed to last for a long time assuming no unforseen failures.
Aftermarket cats are made with different materials and generally don't last as long.
At least you'll have a spare cat for emissions if the RT fails after a few years.

I installed the Tanabe and Progress RSB over this past weekend. Haha! Went thru 4, soaking wet old T-shirts in the process. A scorcha' of a weekend. Not a tough job at all. The Progress feels a bit tighter in handling on the firmer setting. Feels real good in the clover leafs and curves I take every day. Happy with that.
The Tanabe is another story; a bit loud I'd say. Don't know if that will change–or if there is a 'break-in' period. It has a very deep addictive growl (I haven't wanted to listen to any music). And I'm thinking the CT header and RT cat and even the K&N CAI have raised the decibel above 93. In 5th, doing 65-70; its a soft, deep purr, and the slightest touch of the gas, the volume increases. I'm always up and down shifting to avoid the brake pedal–and now, everyone around me knows it. ±) That oem cat just might find its way back on board. I just gotta get one of my kids to run the tsx by me (they all drive stick), so I can judge the sound.

Oliver!!!
I thought it was illegal (at least here in Florida) to sell a used cat. The cat in my old POS Neon got all kinds of screwed up when one of the coils in the DIS went bad and I lost all spark in my #4 cylinder. Everywhere I went told me I had to buy new, it was illegal to sell used. Even the shady junk yard salvage employee (who had hooked me up on several other occasions) wouldn't sell me one for cash under the table for fear of jonny law coming after him if they found out.
But, all legalities aside, I'd say if you have a place to store it, keep it. Even if it's just for the sake of slapping it on to pass emmisions should your aftermarket one go bad.
