What exhaust do you recommend?

Looking at possibly a new exhaust (CAT-back initially) - what do the members suggest?
Not looking ultimate noise - pretty much OEM at idle/low rpms, but transforms into something nice and noteworthy when given a bit of welly.

J's Racing (dual) - coming soon could mean anytime in the next 3 months, if not longer, and I need to move considerably sooner than that.

Mugen - not really a contender as too expensive.

APEXi - I know they've one or two, but not sure how they stack up. Intake side is more of a known quantity.

Feel's - anyone read Japanese? 2 versions, presume the lower is SS and the higher is Titanium?

5Zigen - ProRacer Spec, but not sure about difference between LA CL9 and ABA CL9, although same exhaust seems to do both.

Comptech - price is higher than I seemed to remember. Prefer round baffles though, rather than oval (OEM look).

Skunk2 - price seems very reasonable. Same deal as Comptech on the baffles front.

Custom - UK company can do custom SS for circa £450 ($900) but need a donor car for 3-4 days. Can do 100 cell CAT for similar sort of money, and manifold.

Amuse - similar deal to Mugen (although it is Titanium) but have seen a negative comment re. S2K version regarding build quality after about 14-18 months, IIRC.

Anything else I'm forgetting*?

* Aside from Greddy - they're a non-starter.

this also may be helpful, it has many exhausts including J's Apexi, 5zigen, mugen, etc... on an S2000: S2k exhausts

and here's my comptech with the RT cat and Injen intake: http://s136.photobucket.com/albums/q...rent=RTcat.flv

and before RT cat:

hope that helps more

^^ nice clips!

Fujitsubo Legalis-R and Tanabe Medallion Touring are both pretty quiet, the Tanabe moreso. I have a few videos of my old Fuji if you want them.

Is the Fujitsubo single or dual baffle?
Would prefer to keep dual look.

Should also mention Swift RSB is planned (preferred) so that puts the Comptech out, which it's price already is somewhat off-putting.

Just spent a bit of time on Fuji's site - dual muffler/baffle/backbox, so that's fine.
Any idea how those noise levels compare with the others listed above?
Think 5Zigen might be a bit quieter.

Regards Tanabe - anyone running one of those or heard one that does?

As long as you realize a cat-back wont give hardly any hp gains at all, just get the one that looks the coolest and will likely be an acceptable amount of extra noise.

For power, a header and hi-flow cat seem to be the best choices, and you can have both of them for the cost of a blingy cat-back.

Cheers chaps.

@ Zoopa - all the way from the UK? Sure, why not......

@ TSX2345 - I wish! Sadly, like Mugen, too rich for my blood.

@ Brandon - yeah, I'm aware of that. Manifold and CAT may be optioned in later. One company I've come across doing Custom exhausts, also does 100 Cell CATs. So, that's something I've stored away for another time, hopefully.

@ JTso - cheers for the link. I'll have a listen shortly.

@ Ruserious - don't know to be honest. Might be nothing wrong with them at all, but the remark made when I mentioned the name made me put them out of contention.

@ Lito - If you go halfers with me, I'll be the guinea pig!

@ tsxdriver - yes, ProRacer A-Spec. Dual version. Maybe 'cause I'm used to the twin exhaust, I'd prefer to keep it that way, rather than only a single outlet.

Just re-reading you post Brandon - are you (as hjr seems to allude to in his linked post) saying that the OEM is free-flowing enough, and aside from aesthetics, the manifold and CAT would be a better spend?

Hmmm......

OEM exhaust is free flowing enough until you start adding mods. The chart below shows nice gain during vtec enagement to allow better breathing. However, the chart also shows little to no gain before vtec, peak torque or peak hp.

I've been really pleased with my exhaust. It's relatively quite when I want it to be on the highway, but it sounds great when you roll down the windows or rev it. Some of my friends say it has a growl similar to the 3 series. Here's some more Tanabe MT videos from my car:

Make it single Malt, and it's a done deal.

I did a performance driving school at Mid-Ohio and some of the school cars (TSX) were running Corsa exhausts. I do believe they developed and offer them for sale though their web site does not mention them. I have a call in or if you would like to check for yourself, http://www.corsaperf.com/autohome.htm

They were sweet sounding, nice low rumble at idle and low rpm and a nice growl at wot.

OK, I got a call back. They do have a system for the TSX that they classify as a track system with no reflective sound cancellation technology. Part number 14570 cost is $899.99.

Is this the one you have? http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...033f38fe35ff91

I've never heard of them before, and no one has mentioned them here. How did you find out about them?

Think you could put up a sound clip?

Yup that's the one I have. Fitment is great and the polish is holding up good - altho the tips do get dirty easily. I can post up a short video after work...

I'm glad you mentioned this exhaust. I was going to introduce this exhaust to the TSX community. I was browsing through their catalog the other day and noticed this exhaust.

In fact if anyone wants one I will do them for $750 shipped.
