TSX HID's or aftermarket?

If one wanted to put HIDs on a car without them (i.e. 2005 Accord), would it be better to get an aftermarket kit, or is it possible to buy the parts for a TSX (bulbs, ballaster,etc..) from Acura and thereby ensure the quality?

I've heard that some aftermarket HID kits are bad or even illegal, that is why I ask. Also, does the shape of the headlight housing matter? And will a HID kit still produce that nice sharp light across the top of the beam pattern?

Thanks in advance!

I'm guessing that the shape of the housing would matter a bit, considering it would have to fit in your car.

Theres probably a slim to no chance, but try a junkyard, might get a tsx headlight or two there

Accords are reflector based lights and TSX are using projectors. The bulbs would not fit unless you get an aftermarket kit that comes with a D2R HID bulb that has been re-based to 9006. Most aftermarket kits don’t have the correct beam pattern and causes allot of glare. You probably won't get that nice cut off with most reflector base lights. There are aftermarket kits that come with a beam adaptor that will help correct the beam pattern for reflector base housings.

D2R bulbs are for reflector base housings and D2S bulbs are for projectors.

I believe aftermarket kits or retro fits are illegal unless you get them dot certified.

I'd rather not discuss this topic so that we don't give people ideas on how to utilize our headlights for other cars. That's just asking for thieves to go at our cars.

Yes, cause I'm sure all the HID thieves out there have been combing this forum.

You'd be surprised.

Think about it...most people here give out some detailed info on where they live, what mods they've done to their car, etc...

Though this is all speculation of course, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

And would it really be worthwild to purchase a Acura HID setup rather than an aftermarket one? I bet Acura would rape people on the price...

The TSX HIDs are projector type. Without a project headlamp housing, you'd have to make an awful lot of effort to make it work on a non-TSX fitment. Not worth the effort.

Just get a good quality aftermarket kit. Buy from a reputable dealer and make sure the system comes with a sticker indicating that it is DOT approved.

I didn't think any HID retrofits are DOT approved.

That's what I heard too, Mr. Martin. But a lot of people here say there are some legal ones -- I just need to find them.

I don't think there are any kits out there that are dot approved. If it didn't come with your car its pretty much illegal.

I've done a retorfit of Audi A6 HID projectors in to Aftermarket projector housing before on my Civic. The beam pattern from that is much better and brighter than the TSX. People would think it's an Audi, or BMW until I pass by them. It had that perfect blue cut off that Audi's are known for.

I`ll sell you my old TSX headlights, you will need the two crystals from my TSX. Heat up your housing and take it apart. Then start modifing your housing to fit the lenses After that you can get regular D2S bulbs and balasts. I recomend using OEM lenses with aftermarket bulbs and ballasts. Its the way to go! Quality and the look! PM me if your interested.

P.S Technically if you go this route you wont be in trouble with the law. A retrofit with OEM lesnes is already DOT approved. Just dont get bulbs over 6500K and you should be fine.

back on topic, you would have to retrofit your existing housing to use the TSX projectors, this includes drilling holes, buying additional parts for jerry rigging, baking your lenses off etc... It is a relatively difficult job to get it right.

If you are just looking to have HID bulbs for the brightness or color then get a retrofit kit for your car. This includes D2R HID bulbs with a conversion for your existing stock harness (like a 9007 connection or 9006 blah blah standard halogen specs), ballasts and ignitors. It takes about 30 minutes to mount it all up and you're done. The kit itself is not illegal it depends on the color of light you get, most states anything above 8000kelvins is illegal because they are blue.

Do you still prefer HIDs if you still don't see crap above the road while driving in darkness?
