I want to change mine as well. The center of my wheel is in rough shape.

Anyone know how easy it is to change only the center part? (horn and emblem area)

Easy on the horn there buddy...

I thought it wasn't so straightforward because of the airbag (or was that the Acrua<-->JDM swap?)

The airbag issue was around the JDM swap. I believe colts did it first w/ a Civic airbag, but the airbag was non-functional. Later someone else figured out you could use an US accord coupe airbag as a functional direct swap w/ an H emblem.

I believe you need some kind of tool to swap the steering wheel itself, but the actual wheels are interchangeable. 06+ wheels are slightly thicker and have bumps at the 10 and 2 positions for extra grip.

What's the cost of just the steering wheel?

I did the same swap on my DC2 Integra to have the leather-wrapped version. It was a PITA because you have to get your car aligned again and worry about the airbag deploying.

you can actually get the US EP3 Civic SI (2001-2003) airbag and it is a direct plug and play with the tsx. then you just need the JDM Momo Steering wheel.

Just unplug the battery then unplug the airbag harness.... you wouldn't have a problem..

When you take out the steering wheel, just becareful not to move things around, and mark the position on the little toothed thing that the steering wheel goes onto... plus if I remember correctly, there's only one posiiton that the TSX steering wheel would go into, so it's not easy to screw up the steering alignment.

Make sure to use a good torx bit when removing the screws that secure the airbag to avoid rounding off the torx head. The screws can be tight as it has thread-lock compound on the threads. If the head is rounded off, you will have a hard time getting the screws out.

Although it's been awhile, I could've swore that the service instructions for removing any airbag recommended that you wait a few minutes after removing the battery to allow any stored energy in the circuit to dissapate.

It only takes a small amount of current for the thing to get deployed. Even the warnings tell you to store the bag a certain way. While I'm sure it's a very remote chance, you never could be too safe.

As far as marking the position, keep in mind I'm talking about the DC2. There were several keyed positions for the steering wheel to fit, and no two steering wheels and steering columns match exactly the same. Even marking the position didn't help as it wouldn't allow me to put it on straight.

Many folks on the Clubrsx boards report similar problems when swapping a steering wheel out.

While I'm sure there's a chance you could just happen to have the perfect steering wheel to match, I'm just reporting my experience with it.

i'd like to swap for the rsx-s wheel.

i find my wheel a little too thin at times.

i checked for prices a little awhile ago from a local dealership. i was looking at about $1600CAD for the rsx-s wheel, airbag, and cruise control switches.

Look on the ClubRSX site for wheels -- there are some RSX steering wheels going for much less there.

This is an old thread, but I'm bumping it to add my experiences. I swapped an 06 OEM wheel into my 04 TSX this afternoon. While I love how it feels, I'm frustrated that it didn't come out quite centered. Even though I put it on the only way the tabs allowed it to go on, when I am tracking the car straight ahead, the wheel is somewhere between 12 and 1 o'clock. Not a monster annoyance, but something to nag at the perfectionist in me.

That said, I love the 06+ wheel - it feels so much better in your hands, and the sport grips are a Godsend.

Was going to reply to your PM, but I might as well just post here so I don't have to delete PMs to send some out. Darn 50 PM limit!

You can fix the fact that it is off center. There are a series of small teeth on the wheel and just need to take it back off and slide it back on more centered. It was much easier for me to remove the 2nd time than the first . My advice is to go back in and take it back off. I actually ended up not putting the TORX bolts in on my install, until I felt like it was perfectly centered. So play around with it and you should be able to fix. I had the same issue, and it was annoying having it off centered. I was able to fix it and get it just about perfect though.

Whatever you do, don't forget to remove the harnesses though. You don't want your cable reel to pop off.

Also, I believe that tabs you talked about in your PM can actually be moved. Just turn the inside and that should move the tabs. Basically, you can't use those as an indication that the wheel is perfectly center.

If swap the buttons from your old wheel onto the new wheel. So basically, it doesn't make the buttons light up if they didn't already light up.

Hmm... do I need to get two new T30 bolts now? Because I did put the new Torx bolts in when I thought I was done the install (before realizing I would be taking the wheel off to try and center it). I know you're not supposed to re-use them, I wonder if that matters that they've only been in the airbag for 24 hours...

Well, this certainly sucks.

I got off work early today and figured I'd tackle this since it's a gorgeous 70* clear day out. I disconnected the battery, disconnected the airbag and horn, and grabbed my new Husky screwdriver wih T30 Torx bit. I take out the right side T30 bolt without much trouble. When I get to the left bolt, it snaps my T30 bit right in half, stripping the bolt in the process. I bust out my Torx key set to see if I could even get traction with another bit, and I can't.

The bolt is stuck in the airbag now, and as far as I can tell, that means the airbag's stuck on my car.

What can I do at this point? I put the other bolt back in and my car's definitely drivable right now, but this is not ideal. Do I have to drill the stripped T30 bolt out? Something about drilling + airbag strikes me as a dreadful idea.

Dang!! Sorry to hear that man. That just plain sucks. Installs are a lot of fun when everything goes well, but when they don't it's the worst. I don't have any experience removing stripped bolts so I don't have any good advice. The only thing I can say is to make sure to extract the bolt with the battery disconnected. I don't think the air bags will go off with no power. Will the T30 still fit somewhat?

It will fit at certain angles if you don't put pressure on it but as soon as you being to torque it, it slips right out.

I'm probably going to turn this over to Acura to drill the bolt out, straighten the wheel, and put in two new T30's. Luckily I'm cool with the head of Service at my local dealership, and they won't give me a hard time over this. They're mod-friendly.

Dang, that's too bad. That bolt is hard to get to also. So driving it out might be a little tricky. Sorry to hear about what happened man.
