Question Similar cost to OEM aftermarket Pads/Rotors...

Taking the '04 in for 90K service tommorrow and I get the feeling I'm going to need new rotors and pads. I really want to take the opportunity to get something aftermarket.

What do you guys think are the best rotors/pads to get that cost about the same amount as the OEM ones? I don't want to spend anymore than I have to.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. If you can cut me a deal Excelerate, I can pick the stuff up Thursday before noon with cash in had

Wink

Have you seen www.cobaltfriction.com, ask for Andie and make sure you tell him Bbasso/Rob told you about the site.

I buy all my brake parts from him.

I had Axxis Ultimate brake pads on the 04 and they were pretty good. Lots of brake dust though.

If you're going with an aftermarket brand, more often than not, you're gonna run into more brake dust. EBC greenstuff has slightly better than average when it comes to brake dust so perhaps you should give those a try.

I had a feeling you were going to say that....oh well, that kinda sucks. I'll give those a look though. Thanks!

I guess I'm more concerned about the rotors....mine have warped and replaced twice now and I really want to replace those with something that won't warp anymore.

If they are warpping then you are either, Over tightening the lug nuts or there is pad matterial transfer. I suggest that you clear the brakes from time to time. That consists of three hard stops from 80 to 20 to clean the rotors. IF you have put the rotors on a lathe and can see that they are warped then I suggest using proper Tq on those lugs. I have been tracking my car for 4 years and not once had a wrapped rotor and Yes I drive hard.

Its actually a known issue with the TSX rotors that people have run into. There are many threads about it...

but you don't or haven't driven a TSX, the oem rotors warp very easily

That puzzles me...

But I'll take your word on this.

Has anyone tried different pads to remedy this problem? (more agressive)

To some extent, part of the problem is actually due to either improper braking or bad pads. My 04, had a little bit of a vibration when I switched out the brake pads for the Axxis ultimates and it completely cured what little vibration there was.

Yeah, I've been wondering if I didnt' break in the new rotors properly and caused the rotors to warp. So do you suggest going with both aftermarket pads and breaks or would just aftermarket pads do the trick?

Thanks!

I wish I could say that I know enough to change out brakes, but I don't and wouldn't trust myself enough to do it Thanks for giving me the benefit of the doubt though

I noticed improved pedal feel after switching just the pads and the brake fluid. Went with Axxis Ultimate brake pads and ATE SuperBlue DOT4 brake fluid. After seating the new pads to the old rotors properly, I noticed no more vibration, and the brake feel was noticeably improved.

I then took the car and drove over 1000 miles in a weekend (DC to Boston and back) and the brakes felt great until an emergeny stop on the 95 (my gf was driving at the time and just nailed the brakes full force) caused my master brake cylinder to fail and start to leak (part of my motivation for getting an 06, actually, even though they fixed it under warranty).

Consider some Hawk HP Ceramic or Stillen Metal Matrix pads. These are aftermarket pads that perform better, but are still ceramic composite rather than a graphite derivative. Virtually no dust, just like stock, and better friction.

I personally know alot of people using these pads, http://www.cobaltfriction.com/produc...dProduct=29402 with Min amount of dust and much improved stopping power and shorter distances.
I have used the Axxis Ultimates and found that I liked the feel and all year use very worthy.
Note: This was on my ITR, not TSX. SO weight might make a difference
