Rwd Tsx?

i've been wondering about fwd vs rwd cars. i know rwd is better for racing. but fwd is better in snow and ice. my question is. would the tsx with the exact same engine and weight, be faster in a straight line if it were rwd? i've heard rwd is better at "putting power to the ground." sorry i'm a noob but just curious.

All else being equal, a RWD TSX would out accelerate a FWD TSX since it makes better use of weight transfer.

Probably not. The TSX is not so powerful that there are significant off the line traction issues. A RWD TSX would be heavier due to having the added weight of a driveshaft and associated components. Even if you were to equalize the weight btw a FWD and RWD TSX, there is slightly greater drivetrain hp losses in a RWD car vs. FWD all other things being equal. Thus, the FWD TSX may still have better acceleration times.

Just my opinion.

No doubt. The family man's S2000. I'd rather have a RWD TSX even if it is slower in a straight line.

if a fwd is slow, it's slow and boring car... but if a rwd is slow, it's a slow but FUN car.

They should have made the TSX a sedan version of a s2k.. the higher rev, the rwd, and the 40 extra hp.. MmmM that would be a top selling sedan.. but it's all a dream.. =D

LOL. So true. By far the funnest car I've owned has been a 1989 240sx. It had a SOHC engine w/ 140 hp. But it was ridiculously easy and fun to drive in a tail-out manner.

RWD wasn't fun with my old C36 AMG in the winter, that's how I totalled it, coming onto a highway and normal speeds, a wet spot (could be ice) and the car just spun around and hit the guard rail twice. Changing lanes with 2 feet of snow is also dangerous, add to much gas and the rear end goes out. Yes I had snow tires too. One thing I do mis about RWD is the feeling of being 'pushed' instead of being 'pulled' in a FWD car.

Actually, in a drag race, THE greates issue the TSX has is finding good traction for a decent launch. It's a lot harder to accomplish than what it would seem during day-to-day driving.

Give me TSX in RWD form, all else being equal, and I give you a sub-15 1/4.

Does anyone make an LSD for the TSX transmission? This would probably help off the line traction.

Probably yes, but you could also just swap in the LSD from the DC5R.

You would have a modern day BMW E30 M3, only with Japanese build quality. Sell it for <$35,000 and it'd be a huge success.

But Honda follows the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" marketing philosophy, and would never build such an unconservative sedan.

When a car accelerates the wheels turn clockwise pulling the car in the opposite direction. More weight is distributed to the back wheels, hence rwd handle torque better than fwd. Breaking causes the car to rotate clockwise putting more weight on the front wheels and that is why it is suggested to break into turns and accelerate out of them. I know just the basics and I’m interested in knowing more about torque steer and especially how the TL was engineered to accommodate the power in the fwd car.
