rt high flow cat initial impressions

well, i finally buckled down and bought a rt cat because i couldn't find a good price on a 06/07 oem unit. anyways, the butt dyno tells me i got a couple more ponies lurking under my hood. as an added bonus, throttle response seems to be just a fraction better! the noise under normal conditions isn't bad at all, even at idle. however, at WOT (wide open throttle) that thing is waaaaaay to loud for my taste. additionally (only at wot) i've noticed a significant amount of resonance inside my vehicle. i'll head to napa to pick up another gasket (part # 31369) to see if that has anything to do with it. i have not installed the anti-fouler and don't plan on it, unless CELs start to pop up. overall, the mod is a good value if you can stand the increased volume both in and outside your car. check my sig for accompanying mods.

vinny

interesting man..... What prices were you getting for the oem 06/07 cat? The best I've been getting is from acuraoemparts.com or oemacuraparts.com, for $535 and 570. How much did you pay for the RT?

Even though the extra power is good, I think that the added throttle response would benefit us 5AT owners.

^ your absolutely correct about the the auto and throttle response. i payed $320 for the cat at a local shop - price includes tax and shipping. as for the oem unit, about $550. hondata will probably be the last of my performance mods and then it's time to address the a/v system

^^thanks for the info. I'd most interested to see if you get CELs anytime after a couple of WOT runs.

I'm now also wondering if the '06 OEM cat would also get CELs. I really have no idea what paramters the 02 sensors read as normal, but I would imagine that the 06 sensors might be set up differently than an 05.

My car will never throw up CEL when wot, NEVER.

The CEL will only pop up if I'm driving on highway (100km/h+) with stable light-footed low rpm range (2000-3000rpm) over 30mins, and it's gaurantee too. haha

BTW: I don't have a RT Cat, I have the Magnaflow Cat, so it might be a lil different.

Oh yeah, enjoy that "new cat smell"

That was the worst side effect of any mod I've done to the TSX so far. I was double checking it for 2 days until it went away.

Update: it's been a couple weeks now and smell is gone, as well as some of the resonance inside the vehicle. i installed the napa gaskets as well, so it seems as if they've helped a bit. NO CEL YET

Don't mean to hi-jack the thread. What do you guys think about the random-cat w/ the stock 04 exhaust? I've searched the threads and couldn't find anybody running this specific setup. Maybe I should be the guinea pig.

^ the cat (especially coupled with header) will make more difference than exhaust in terms of hp/tq

^^^ Yeah exactly my thinking. I just was wondering what type of exhaust note this particular setup would emit.

You should have got this mod since I have last year. The high-flow cat free up the flow sooooo much, and even greater when pairing w/ the SP2, I'm serious.

Oh yah....this mod really boosted up my car. Im surprised how smooth the car goes now, though you still have lack of power in the low end, but once past 2500-3000rpm it gets a good jolt and revs to redline with ease.

Its only loud unless you are at WOT and its a nice whine/buzz noise.

GOes well with my icebox, comptech headers and pulleys. Not interested in any aftermarket exhaust system.

bringing this thing back to life courtesy of carbongrayearl. haven't experienced any CELs since the install. the decibal level has definitely gone up a bit with the cat, but it's bearable. however, the older i get, the more i seem to notice it

Sounds like a nice mod-without adding a new cat-back. I've got my CT header, and as soon as I recover from my neck operation, i'll install that and the RT. Exhaust can come later.

It was on J's Racing's site I believe, I thought it was 14whp actually.

Anyway I love my RT cat. I ran it for 6-7mos without a CEL, but then they started popping up. I put on an anti-fouler a month or two back and no problems since.

You mean this one? -> http://www.aj-racing.com/catalog/pro...cat=128&page=1

It may even pass visual inspection with the cat heat shield on.

But 11-11whp gain is against bone stock TSX, not TSX w/ high-flow cat. I thought JTso done a dyno test b/w HFC and Testpipe, and the testpipe only gain 1whp on top of the HFC.

Yea, that is the website. I like the fact that the stock heatsheild can bolt up to it.

Broke-down and got the header and Rt installed yesterday at local shop in Gillette, NJ. Nice, 'savvy' bunch of guys. Now, to break-in that aromatic cat!

Nice! The engine revs so freely, pulling effortlessly through the gears–and she just wants to go and go. I'm happy.

thread revival: i ditched the rt cat for a carsound/magnaflow unit. this was my 2nd rt cat (first one slightly damaged from an accident). i had to re-weld one of the flanges on because there was a leak

also, i'm unsure y this cat is designed with different in/outlet piping diameters. the carsound unit is symmetrical and has dyno proven gains

Quick Reply: rt high flow cat initial impressions
