Rotors and disc brakes - want to do myself

Are there any special tools required, or just basic mechanic’s tools? Are the rotors pressed on the wheel hubs, or simply bolted? Do the rear caliper pistons press in, or are they the type that turn in?

I want to do my own brakes and rotors, and just wondering what I am getting in to. Plus, where can I buy reasonable OEM rotors. I saw slotted vented, and cross drilled rotors, but they were around $425. I don't need those since the TSX is not fast at all.

Thanks for any help!

The rotors are bolted in w/ 2 screws, but you'll probably need an impact screwdriver to remove them because they strip easily w/ a standard screwdriver, search for a pic of that tool on here.

Look for a thread on stainless steel brakelines, I think modaway got brembo blanks and really liked them

just get blank brembos and hawk hps pads, or oem blanks and hawk hps pads

see if you can rent a 14v impact driver, it'll remove the screws easily. you may need a breaker bar for the bolts. fairly easy job.

I susually use a screwdriver with a hex shaft and slide a wrench on it to get the turning force to get the screws out. If all else fails drill them out. You really don't need them there anyway.

You press in the pistons. I use a big channel-lock wrench.

I kinda beg to differ on the upgrade issue. True the TSX is not that fast, but the OEM brakes are barely up to the task of performance driving. Upgrading the rotors is not a waste.

I usually just drill those screws out. They are only there for the factory assembly line and are a pain in the butt to get off.

Right now, I have Powerslots all around with HAWK HPS pads.

Alright.

I would upgrade my rotors, jsut want to find some that are barely more expensive than OEM. Guess I am looking for aftermarket rotors around $75 for each. That is what I can get OEM with shipping and everything. All of the after market ones were like $475 for a set of front and rears.

Then, brake pads aren't expensive. Looking for something around $75 for both the front and rears, since that is what I can get the OEM ones for shipped.

Any suggestions?

Plus, I am already pissed at 18,000 miles that the rotors already had to be resurfaced at 12,000 miles, and are starting to warp again, but since they have been ground down already, I have to replace them the next time. I am trying to get them to replace them under warranty.

IMO, you are not going to get much better braking performance with "barely more expensive than OEM." That includes rotors and pads.

I already resurfaced my rotors twice once was at 15k or so and the other was at 28k...
