You don't want to pour it back to the engine. That contaminated oil/oil vapor in the can is normally routed back to engine and burn off. So, just dump it out.

Warning label

Hey guys,

Did you guys see this Explosion warning label on your filters?? Should I be concerned about this?? Since most of you guys have the similar general filter installed, I'm thinking not... but I'm going to be using full Synthetic oil from this point on so I ask the question.

Thanks!

mine's black. I believe the color depends on what store you buy it from, mine was from Lowe's.

They are the same. The only difference is the color. I think the bowl explosion problem has to do with high pressure air going through it in the normal air compressor setup. It's now working with about 26" of vaccum in our setup.

Does yours get really hot?

Hey guys,

First, thanks for your write-up (JTso/Xizor)! I got mine installed thanks to you. HOWEVER, I do have a question, does your hose & your filter get really hot to touch?? I drove for about an hour (it was pretty hot day, 88F) and the hose and the filter was pretty hot to touch... just wanted to know if you guys are getting the same thing. Also another question then, sorry, is there such thing as temperature ratings for these PCV hoses?? Thanks!

looks good, i think you can shoften up the hoses a bit, if you want a little cleaner look. check mine out on pg 2, I routed my return line to the injector base on the other side of the alternator to avoid routing around the pulley. i'll post some pics w/ the intake manifold cover off tomorrow.

I haven't touched the lines, but they are carrying oil vapor, so its normal that its hot. I don't think its a problem though as the S2000 users have been taking them to the track w/ no problems at all.

Great, thanks bunch for your feedback!

I did make sure that my quick-ties are all loose, just to make sure that I wasn't choking the flow. I also used clear packaging tape around the glass/plastic portion in case they explode/implode, which I'm sure it's unlikely.

Thank you again!

This is my setup w/o the intake manifold cover on. I reused the original tubing and added another one.

I found this filter browsing though a catalogue today, very inexpensive and the built in gauge seems cool, Its smaller though, and of unknown quality.

link

A lot cheaper than the $20-25 I paid for mine at Lowes.

I paid $12.99 for my filter at local Auto-zone store, little cheaper there than Lowes I guess.

I looked around Autozone and I'm unable to find it online. The product number from Autozone is (MP5138) based on my receipt, $12.99

However, here is the actual manufacturer site:
CHPOWER.COM

If you go to their site, there are two products that may work for our application:
1. Mini General Purpose Filter: Model: MP513810 (one that I bought, I hope my SCFM per PSI is correct)
2. General Purpose Filter: Model: PA2121

Hope this helps...

okay, i got my kit today sans pcv hose. my filter unit costs $11.97 at home depot and the npt adapters were $1.19 each plus 4 metal clamp thingys for $0.87 each, total plus tax = $19.30. Where can I get the pcv hose?? Lowes didn't have one with a 3/8" inner diameter fuel hose. Where can I get a bracket or I can ghetto rig it with zipties?

You can ghetto zip tie it, its worked very well for me so far. And the piece on the right is the throttle body bypass mod, you can search for more info on that one.

PCV hose can be found at Autozone or PepBoys. I paid ~$4.00 for 4 feet.
As Xizor pointed out, zipties are quick and easy solution to fasten the hose.

I don't know if it makes sense, but I put a clear packaging tape (2" wide) once around the glass/plastic portion in case of breakage... hope it never happens of course, afterall mine gets pretty hot after drive and filter I think is rated for 115F max...

Does PVC hose = Fuel line hose? I think I bought the same stuff as TSXChef (Hose has the SAE 30R7 marking on it), but on a subsequent trip to home depot I found some clear PVC hose in the plumbing section that seemed a whole lot stiffer. Will the fuel line hose suffice (I see several people are using it on their setups)? I tried comparing the fuel line hose with the stock hose (with my oh so precise finger-pinch-ometer), and they seem pretty similar, with both being MUCH softer than the PVC hose (wasn't even able to bend the PVC hose much at all).

As a side note, is it PVC or PCV? All the hoses at home-depot are labeled PVC, but google confirms the existance of a PCV hose as well?

Thanks for your help!

I do believe that PCV is different than PVC hose. My fuel line hose says that it is a "nitrile hose that resists teh effects of oil, gasoline, and pressure. Reinforced for maximum burst strength. Durable cover resists abrasions, weather, heat, and ozone. Designed to meet or exceed OEM requirements." PVC sounds like the tubes you use for plumbing and water lines and pipes. I did see someone on the thread with what looks like a vinyl hose. Is that safe?

I used fuel line hose as advance auto didn't even sell pvc hose. Seems to be working ok for me. Home depot had PVC, but only in clear which was too ugly to bear.

I used fuel line/PCV grade hoses and NAPA auto parts should have them. They are more expensive than just regular fuel lines as it also needs to handle heat and not get brittle and falling apart or deteriate inside. You can use fuel line/PCV quality hose for both fuel line or PCV applications, but shouldn't use fuel line grade for PCV. If you have both types side by side, you will see and feel the difference. I know many auto parts stores sell fuel line as PCV hoses but some will carry the correct type. However, it probably won't cause any problems if you just monitor the condition of the hoses from time to time.

JTso, so should I return my hose and try to find some real PCV hose? It seems like most of the auto parts stores sell "fuel line" type hoses. When removing the hoses, do you need to clamp them down with pliers like the throttle body hoses?

If it's already installed, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm just more picky about how things are done. If you want to remove the hoses, It's not necessary to crimp them down because nothing will leak out.
