Momo shift knob installed!
The stock shift knob feels a little small for me, so I replaced it with a Momo Race Air-Leather. The Momo knob mounts slightly shorter than stock but works really well with the Neuspeed short shifter and feels good in my hand. The shift is shorten by another few %. :D

I was thinking of getting that exact same knob. Now I think I will. Looks great! Thanks for the pics.
|
looks quite stylish. i love the stock one, and couldn't imagine any other shifter on my TSX, but I like how the Momo one still matches the interior.
|
Exactly, that's why I like it. I only wish it's a little heavier. It weights about .25 lbs. The stock one is .5 lbs.

Weight Reduction yay!
The stock knob is very ITR-ish, with leather wrapped middle. Don't know why anyone would get rid of it. :( |
Looking good! :)

Is there any hollow space inside the knob? If so, you could glue some lead shot in there and increase the weight.
Also, a question: What is the deal with those 6 holes on top of the knob? Are they actually holes, or just decoration? Actual holes would probably get uncomfortable. The company I work in has a machine shop; I sometimes think of buying round stock of some exotic metal and having them machine a custom knob for me at a discount rate. Then I could wrap it in leather or something. I could be the only person in the world with a vanadium shift knob :D ...but it wouldn't make the car any faster, so I probably won't waste my money. |
I have machined many shift knobs at work. I might even have a couple of the programs still on file. 304 stainless makes for a nice weight. If there's enough interest I could machine a few for those who want one. I don't have a lot of free time on our lathes right now but in a couple months I'd be able to do a run.
The last few I've done were patterned after the UUC knobs like this: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/RKC5/images/RKC5_2.jpg http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/RKC5/images/RKC5_1.jpg I was thinking about doing one with the TSX logo engraved into the top. |
Iwas thinking of the same thing with the TSX logo on the top while reading your post and then I saw it at the end. I would be up for one like that for my automatic with the tsx logo on the top with like a ball shape knob
|
that momo shift knob looks hype!
i have a question, did the shift knob decrease the HEIGHT of the "stick" or was it another mod that decreased the HEIGHT of the "stick" |
The inside of the Momo knob is hollow so the threaded shift lever goes all the way in almost near the top. Last night I removed the Momo knob and packed the inside with some foam to restore the stock height.
|
Does anyone know how the SS shift knob is attached? The MT is threaded on and there is a locknut to hold it in place but I don't see a locknut on the SS.
|
It's just screwed in place. There's no locknut or anything. I tried putting on an aftermarket MOMO shift knob made for manual cars but I couldn't get it to fit quite right. So I ended up buying a shift knob from a CL/TL Type-S off eBay instead. That one screwed on perfectly.

6MT all the way baby. I just wanted to know if I go ahead and make these shift knobs. It would be good to have one style that fits both cars.

See my post 9 posts up. ^^^^^^

Oh they'll get damn cold in winter but beauty hurts. :D
I wear gloves in the winter so it really doesn't bother me much. Both pics are of the same knob just from a different angle. That particular knob wasn't done by my but the ones I've made are pretty well an exact copy. I've never done it as a commercial business, just something for people I know. I'll do a batch of 20 or so in the next couple months when I have some time on our lathes. Right now it's just way too busy to get on them for anything that isn't making the company money. Since they are CNC it's no harder for me to make 1 or 1,000. Once I have the program done up I just load the bars and hit go. Of course the more I do the cheaper each knob will be. I'm open for suggestions so if anyone has seen a knob they like better than the one above just let me know and I'll start another thread so we can vote on the design before I start. |
Dan, count me in. If you need to check the threads and fit for AT, you can use my car.
|
any chance you can make shift knobs like this
http://images.cardomain.com/products...OMALURAC_1.jpg http://images.cardomain.com/products/mom/MOMALUSP_1.jpg and then would you be able to have the TSX logo etched in the top |
Yes it would be very similar to that. The polished finish is a pain in the ass but the satin one is more like what I would do. The nice thing about having a little bit of a flat surface on top is that I can have the little insert plates made at an engraver and just stick them in. That way we can have the same knob but with different inserts like one that says "TSX" or one that has the shift pattern in it.
|
Thanks Kiteboy I think I still have your card so I'll give you a shout when I make a prototype. It's going to be a while though (somewhere around the end of May).
|
I was only using pics for the shape and design of the knob. also I will be one of your first buyers when you get one with the TSX logo on it cause I dont need the shift pattern due to having an automatic
|
Johnny, do you still have that Momo knob? If so how is it wearing and do you still like it/recommend it.
I'm thinking baout picking one up. |

Thanks. I think this would wear alot better than an aluminum considering scratches.
I can't find an Ebay seller who has these that will ship to Canada though. :annoyed: |
^
it DOES match very well with the interior. very nice... |

I e-mailed two of them. But a couple of them say: :"Shipping to US only", "Canada is not a part of the USA" :D |

That's a SWEET looking shit knob! I think I'm gonna have to get it! The stock is a little small for my taste also. And the look of this 1 I think goes great with the interior. Since it's such a long knob :ugh: and the wieght is so light, maybe instead of using foam in the top of it to lessen the length of it, maybe you could put something heavier instead??? That way the knob won't be so light!
|
Dan, if you ever get the time to machine the acurazine knob, I'll love to take a plain one without any TSX/acurazine logo or gear pattern etching.
|
Makes me wish I had a MT. Looks great.
