Just got quoted A-spec suspension install price

Just got off the phone with Tustin Acura. I asked them how much the install would be for the A-spec suspension -- labor only. I almost dropped the phone when he told me their price:
$540
Yes, I know this is the stealer we're dealing with here -- yet their price was still surprising because Acura service claims to be 'competative' now. I asked the guy on the phone how long it would take and he replied, "It takes all day."

C'mon now...I've done coilover installs before and the longest it ever took was 2 hours WITHOUT air tools. Even at 3 hours, that's almost $200 / hr!!

My mechanic that I usually use is Honda Tech in Buena Park, CA. He quoted me last week $200 with alignment. Not bad. However, I just don't like the quality of his garage and the fact that they use your car for part runs occasionally.

This may be a DIY project. What are some of the prices you guys have paid?

That price is outrageous. If my memory serves correctly, I paid around $300 for my Aspec install + alignment at Acura of Bellevue. This dealer is overestimating the labor.

It is a VERY easy install - drop the old struts out, throw the new ones in and take it to a shop for a $60 alignment I would just do it yourself.

I did it myself...took about 2.5 hours. Very straight-forward instructions.

I really didn't want to install this thing myself so I went for a quote from my dealer. $424 to install. After talking with the head of service, he worked out a deal... It's going to cost me about $250 give or take a few dollars w. alignment...

PM Mr. Heeltoe here on the board. He is in Mission Viejo, official vendor of Azine and knows exactly what he's doing. He did my Tein Basic install, camber kit and alignment, all in about 4 hours or so if I can remember. And the labor cost was a very fair price. Since you probably wont need a camber kit with the aspec, it will be cheaper.

Look him up here and give him a call.

Bought and installed grand total $800. The only plus-side to dealer install is the security of the car's warranty... also, no camber kit. Just shocks and springs. Add that with some beefed up tires, and you have one hell of a handler.

$600 was the best I could find from Acura of Escondido, CA. I tried my local dealer and a friend's employee discount and they came out higher. You could find them on Ebay.

Looks like another DIY. It's a good thing that I already know how to take out the back seats on a Honda after gutting my Integra. I just hate sticking anything metal near my precious fake leather.

^^ Just fly Accsuperstar into your city. It would probably cost a lot less than $540

They don't call them "stealers" for nothing.

It should be a crime for even quoting that price.

I'm pretty sure their quoting system is very state-of-the-art, too...

STEALER: [Lazy voice]Service...[/Lazy voice]
ME: Hi. I own a 2005 TSX and I was wondering how much the installation cost is for the a-spec suspension -- labor only.
STEALER: *Sigh* (sounded like he woke from his nap) Hold on...

While on hold, I'm sure their system worked like this:

STEALER: Hey, dude -- how long does it take for a suspension install?
MECHANIC DUDE: What kind of car?
STEALER: TSX -- or something...
MECHANIC DUDE: I don't fucking know? 8 hours?
STEALER: OK. Thanks!

Hold button off:

STEALER: Yeah, it'll be $540.
ME: What? Does that include an alignment?
STEALER: Ummm. Ahhh? Errr? Yeah, it does.
ME: OK. Thanks.

Hey, I'll help you!! I can't provide a warranty....but you do know where I live, so there's some peace of mind there. Besides, I'm gonna need your help when I install my Aspec suspension!!

Seriously though, 540 is outrageous!! There are a ton of Acura dealers within driving distance, so it might be worth it to shop around. What about Honda?Would they provide the same warranty and a cheaper install?

I decided to call another dealer. This time, it was your beloved Weir Canyon Acura. Are you sitting down? This is what they quoted me with no heisitation this time:
$890
Good lord! I laughed on the phone and asked the guy why it costed so much. He told me that it was at least 10 hours of labor! I told him that I've done suspension before and the longest it ever took was 2 hours total -- without power tools. He told me that they had to make profit somewhere.

Next time any of you need a laugh, call your local Acura dealer and ask them how much to install the A-spec.

890 for a new set of A-spec suspenion with labour and alignment is still expensive

and this is only for the labour

$890!! well, there goes that idea...is their 2 year warranty really worth that much? Maybe it might be best to give the Acura dealer your Tustin quote first (or lower) and then ask if they can beat it. That might work; at least there might be less propensity for BS. Otherwise, for 540 I'd think about getting it done by reggie or Jesse....I can always install it for you, but the only tools I have are a hammer, a paint brush, and and some twist ties.
