Injen CAI w/out Performance Exhaust??
I'm thinking of buying an '04 TSX that currently has an Injen CAI and performance exhaust system. I'm wondering if I buy this car, can I remove the exhaust pipes since I prefer the look of the factory tips. I realize the larger exhaust pipes might give the car slightly better performance, but the external looks of the car are more of a priority for me.
So I just want to make sure that I wouldn't be doing any harm by going back to the factory exhaust while having the CAI.
Also, would this be hard to do? Is it as simple as removing the performance exhaust or is it a complex process?
Thank you!

Thank you. Does the CAI increase the chances of having any engine troubles down the road?
If I replace the exhaust (go back to the factory system), will the engine note sound like it would if I never had the performance exhaust (does the more guttural sound come from the performance exhaust or the CAI)?

CAI wont hurt the engine without exhaust. But the gutteral sound you are talking about comes from both. The injen CAI is pretty loud at WOT, but under typical driving conditions you wont even know it's there

Aftermarket cat-backs do pretty much diddly squat for a TSX as far as horsepower. But, it depends on which one it is. The comptech exhaust system I think looks and sounds nice for instance without looking and sounding too boy-racerish. It wont hurt anything to go back to the OEM system.
As for the CAI, it will add a few more hp but make alot more noise. High flow air filters tend not filter out dust as well either as the stock airbox with OEM paper filter. This could to higher levels of engine wear in the long run.
If you're conscious enough to be concerned about this kind of stuff, then probably you're better off looking for a completely stock TSX.

Until recently filtration tests were performed in accordance with the Society of Automotive Engineer's (SAE) J726 testing procedure, however, we now use the ISO 5011procedure which that superseded the SAE procedure.
The content of the test dust used in accordance with the SAE testing procedure is as follows:
Particle Size in Microns ----------> % by Volume (+/- 3%)
<5.5 ------------------------ 13
5.5 to 11 ------------------------ 11
11 to 22 ------------------------ 13
22 to 44 ------------------------- 19
44 to 88 ------------------------- 28
88 to 176 ------------------------ 16
Our testing has demonstrated that on average, K&N air filters have an overall efficiency rating of between 97 and 99%.

Actually, you can get the modded one and just do a trade with a forum member. You might even be able to get an OEM exhaust plus a little cash in exchange for your aftermarket exhaust. What area do you live in?
