The Hondata Reflash THE best bang for the buck on your 04-06 TSX

If you didn't want or have a reflash before I wrote this, you will want one after you read it:

The Hondata Reflash THE best bang for the buck on your 04-06 TSX - HeelToe Automotive

For those of you that already have the reflash, please review it here:
Hondata Reflash, 04-06 K24A2 CL9 TSX Manual and Automatic, Reflash - HeelToe Automotive

Meaning, your car is running on a program made by some nameless, faceless engineering group at Honda to be the best Honda it can be.

Unfortunately for you, that does not mean it is the best PERFORMING Honda it can be. Engineers have to report to the company which needs to report to its customers. Not all customers are power-hungry pedal stoppers like you and I are. Therefore, there is almost always some power left on the table somewhere.

The Hondata Reflash for the 04-06 TSX is a revamped set of parameters that is downloaded onto your stock computer to de-geek it. Ironically, the program of the reflash was developed by the biggest Honda-geek of them all, Doug who is the head honcho at Hondata. That anyone, for a mere few hundred bucks, can get a fully optimized ECU tune by one of the modern-day masters is nothing short of a no-brainer.

During a recent dyno testing stint at Church Auto Testing in Wilmington, CA, I had the opportunity to do a little before-and-after test of the reflash on my personal HTSpec TSX. This 2004 model has about 120,000 miles on it and minimal mods (just an CT-Engineering Carbon Icebox, UR Underdrive Pulleys, and a Fujitsubo exhaust). Check out the before and after dyno graph:

ive been fighting with getting either the reflash for 300, or the fully customizable flash pro which ill have to buy a new ecu plus the price of flash pro totaling about $1200. is the reflash based soley on the ecu performance in and of itself or is it mod based/optimized per performance part, and if the latter, why in the name of all things good do i need a new ecu for flash pro and not for the reflash?

If you are planning to do a higher level of mods, like supercharging or engine build the Flashpro is best. As a compliment to other bolt ons like an intake, header, exhaust, get the reflash

Don't bother spending the money on the flashpro...you won't get the bang for the buck without spending at least $1200 in parts. That puts you at somwhere around $2700 for the whole prospect.

07-08 can be reflashed at certain Hondata dealers. See if one is close to you http://www.hondata.com/hondata_dealer_reflash.html

Easily the best mod. My car came with the reflash already (win!) but I drove my buddies stock TSX... lame. He drove mine, convinced him to do it.

Hey Marcus, its me again lol. Question, I don't think I'll be adding on any more bolt ons that will affect a/f ratio other than the ones i have now. Would things like the hondata gasket, UR pulleys, or tb bypass warrant a tune to draw as much power out of it as possible or can i put on things like those after the reflash and still reap the full benefits of said mods?

Not that this would be a reason to do this mod, but has anyone seen better mpg?

I'm in real estate, so i do a bit of driving. Lots of interstate too, already i am getting 30~mpg

the only reason i want the flash pro is so my car can be professionaly tuned for both mpg and power. flash pro allows the use of rbc vtc also which makes a big difference in mid range power

flashpro is the way to go. as you get new parts put on the ecu will need to reprogramed to compensate for the new add on's.

oh yes lots of people are asking for it just because of the gas prices. it will pay for itself in less than a year depending on your driving distances per month. for you i would assume it should pay for itself in less than a year for sure.

if the tuner is good and you are not all about the cost of tuning then it can be done and should be done. it just takes more time from the tuner. which equals to more cost up front. usually the average increase of mpg is about 30% more mpg from your current average. plus you get more power.

over the long run youll save money on gas and the fun factor of driving goes up.

None of these parts will have any significant impact on the tune.

There will be no mpg gains from the Hondata Reflash.
In theory, you may be able to gain MPG by building a mild & leaner tune with FlashPro but no way would that ever pay for itself.

If you are looking for MPG gains, leave your car stock & save the money you spend on mods for purchasing gas.

+1

You would have to be a very disciplined soul to milk any mpg out of this upgrade. I'm confident that everybody who has done this upgrade has seen their mpg decrease due to the "fun factor". The TSX is a driver's car, and the reflash upgrade makes it a lot more fun to push it to its limits.

I could type a novel but all the answers you need are on the Hondata website. http://www.hondata.com/wizard/wiz_tsx.html

I recommend that everyone read the Hondata website top to bottom. It has a ton of information, for Hondata products, plus technical information,
plus a technical forum.

We have all the same details on the product on our product page.

dmurrain1stgen you are confusing the reflash with a flashpro. For a reflash you don't need a new computer.

Thanks for the replies. I would probably see mpg increase then Almost my entire drive to work is freeway with no stopping and cruise control is used 95% of the time I drive.

Like I said, wouldn't do it for that reason, just curious.

Here are my dyno results for mine...

Here is a run down of the graph:
Blue Line - stock motor w/CT icebox, Hondata IM gasket, modded stock exhaust
Green Line - same as above but added PLM header with Test Pipe
Red Line - Same as green line but with Hondata Reflash.
If you look right at 6K - I gained over 40whp from the blue to the red - and it can be felt in the car big time - I highly recommend these mods they do a boatload to the car - make it feel much more responsive and just pulls harder.
