Question Has anybody tryout K&N air filter?

Has anybody try out K&N's airfilter on their TSX yet? What's the effect? Is it worth it? Also if I change my oil at 2K miles to synthetic, will it be of any good, or bad even?

leave oil in until 5000 miles. The car comes fromt he factory with a synthetic blend, stay with that.

As far as the K&N drop in filter, you will notr get a HP increase but you will never have to buy a filter again.

Thanks for the info. About the oil change, I lived in hot weather (90F up) and drive the car pretty hard, do you still think 5000 miles is a good time to change oil?

Just change it at 3000 miles. I'm changing mine at 3000 (in about 2 wks) before I head to the Chicago meet. There's nothing wrong with doing it earlier than stated. As for what they put in the car from the factory... its actually not synthetic. Honda does use Mobil oil, but not Mobil 1 from the factory.

On other automotive boards (I forget if it was 9-3 or WRX-related), I vaguely recall some threads discussing the disadvantages to a K+N.

There was some concern that the filter was too permissive of larger particles. This was causing some buildup problems, in some folks' opinions.

Another guy was talking about oiling the filter correctly. If you use too much oil on the filter, it can drip into your air intake system and foul it up, I guess. Right now I'm happy dropping regular air filters in my cars and living without the 2-5 hp increase that other people swear they can feel...

The RSX & TSX come from the factory with a synthetic BLEND not synthetic - 2 completely different types of oil. I got this information from Acura in CA.

Hmm...Just finished an autocross event, and the car has roughly 2.5K miles on them...

Anyways, thanks for the info.

Don't have the size either but the filter elemnet of the K&N is thinner than the stock filter. Also, I won't discount the performance benefit of the K&N filter either, as the car does feel more responsive after putting in the K&N. However, only a before and after dyno run can truely review the difference...

For what it's worth, I have used K&N air filters for years. I have never heard of them passing through particles into an engine. They are quite well know for providing superior filtration with increased airflow as a result of the oild gause. Of course they are more expensive and can be cleaned. I have found them to not even require cleaning in my area much before 60K miles have elapsed and I am sure that even with that many miles on it, the airflow is superior to a stock paper filter. They have been around for a long time, and, if they were damaging engines there would be much written about that. Just my two cents.
