Question Foglamps and spoiler

I am getting ready to order a 2005 TSX and could use some advice on accessories.
Can anybody tell me if they think that foglights on the TSX are worth it based on all of the chatter in various forums on how easy they break? I need them to be functional, not as an ornament, so I do not want to drop $400 if they are as fragile as everybody says.

The second question is the rear trunk spoiler. I like the looks a lot, but does it serve a real function in helping to keep the rear down? Is it strictly for looks only? I guess I am trying to justify the rediculous $600+ price tag.

Thanks!

Apparently the fogs are pretty easy to break. You might want to get some protective film to prevent stone damage.

The rear spoiler is a cosmetic upgrade.

You should consider buying both those items from our Black Market section or eBay. Dealers markup that stuff a lot.

I have the fogs. I have fun with them, and like they way they look. They are also useful in raining or foggy weather (I think they really do help). But, they break rather easily and various owners have reported problems with those plastic film protectors (browning plastic, etc). For that reason, I'd advise you to pass on the fogs.

Spoiler is a personal preference. I've never owned one. To me, it seems mostly cosmetic. It does help you see where the tail is when you are backing up. It might also complicate waxing and washing of the car.

add-ons that are very useful include wheel locks, trunk mat, all season mats, and luggage net.

I have a TSX on order so I've looked at all the extra stuff. Personally, I think the fog lamps look exactly like what they are--a tacky dealer add-on. Normally, I would always order them factory because the front valence usually looks like its missing something without them. In the TSX's case, it looks better without them.

As for spoilers, I always laugh when I see them on street cars. How many Neons, Mitsubishis, 300Ms, and now the awesome Chevy Cobalt (!) do you have to see to realize what a joke a spoiler is on any street car. The TSX has beautiful, classic styling lines. Don't pimp it up.

i love my fogs. no problems with them.

save your $$ on the spoiler, and get either the comptech rear sway, or the a-spec suspension if you like a slight drop

I have the fogs, but am disappointed that they only turn on when the headlights are on. The whole point of fog lights is to get underneath the fog so that the reflection doesn't come back in your eyes like it will with headlights. So if they only come on when the headlights are on, it defeats their purpose beyond looking cool.

Haven't had my car too long to comment on their durability, but Acura seriously goofed when they made the stalk switch only turn them on when the headlights were already on.

I got both:

and it helps in reverse (see the spoiler?... at least it does for me):

I also have clear bra material on my fog lights. They browned on me once becuase I left them on for too long while not moving (to keep them cool). I've got a thread about that somewhere in here.

Cool

The factory fog lights are not worth the money IMHO; I have them because they were thrown in for free. With the HIDs, they really don't make a big difference (however they do help cover a wider angle) and like rmpage said, they will only come on when the low beams are on. They turn off when the low beams are off or when you trigger the high beams. In essence, the factory fogs more or less an appearance upgrade.

I have had more problems with paint damage on my hood from rocks and other debris flying at me and no damage whatsoever with the fog light lenses. My fog lenses have not browned as others have mentioned.

My Take:
Dump the spoiler and fogs and use the extra dough for better tires or brakes. If you do a lot of highway driving, a clear bra is a good investment as well.

I feel that they may not me all that great of a buy I had them on my Civic Si & my Accord but with the HID's on the TSX they don't seem to be needed but I have'nt driven a TSX with them you may want to see if you can before you buy it. That way you can tell if its a good investment but I'm not to hip on the rr. spoiler I wish Acura would make a lip one like the TL.

If you don't like the big spoiler you could get a lip spoiler.

What is the lip spoiler and does Acura sell it as an option? I am a little leary of a 3rd party spoiler.

Acura hasn't released the lip spoiler for the TSX.

A lot of members here are using an aftermarket lip spoiler. And it looks good

I do believe the lip spoiler is available from Acura directly, it is far cheaper than the stock spoiler.

What dealer are you purchasing your TSX from?

There isn't an official lip spoiler for the TSX available from Acura. They showed one on their A-Spec concept a year ago but it never came to be.

Your can either get:
-the 46" M3 clone from eBay which 9/10 people have
-a real BMW lip for 10x the price
-the one by Phase
-Mugen's big lip spoiler

when you're ordering the new tsx, first negotiate the price, if they won't go any lower than what you ask, start asking for accessories, like fog lights, spoiler, anything that you would have to pay for. I believe it's easier for dealers to throw in stuff like that, than to lower the price tag.
- that's what I did.

I have the fogs and like them for the looks. I am one of the people that have them on all the time that people hate. I think they look neat. I think I am still 16 years old (real gitty) when I get in the car, except the times I feel like a rich old man because the thing is so nice.

I would agree that they are both cosmetic upgrades. The fogs do put out a wider beam, but only 20 feet in front of the cars. The HIDs rock.

well if you really want foglights, this is an option:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ight=wire+mesh

This guy put some wire mesh over his fogs, shows instructions on how he did it. Some poeple may not like the look, but black mesh may be more subtle.

In the SF Bay area. I live in north bay but wherever I can get the best price for a 5A non-navi. What should I pay for that in your experience (before fogs)?

I paid 25,000 before tax& license at Stephens Creek Acura. Try to contact George, he is one of the internet salesman. I bought an 04 though...and I'm not sure if they are doing deals on the 05s right now.

Good luck!

I got both. The fogs - not sure if I should have got them reading about how fragile they are. They look ok, but not great. Part of the reason that I got the fogs is so that all the wiring would be in place if I want to install different ones. As for the spoiler, I love the look with the full body kit. I would not have got the spoiler alone. All personal opinion.

I say go for the oem bodykit. The fog won't look good without the bodykit and the spoiler is totally out of place.
