Filter question for those with Icebox
I've always been a fan of K&N filters first off. I was wondering if anyone has switched out their foam panel filter that came with the icebox to something else?
I've seen this flow chart on several sites before and by this, it seems like leaving your OEM filter in would be better than the foam Unifilter from Comptech.
I'm probably going to replace mine with a K&N panel filter although I think I saw where someone put a cone filter in the airbox.

You're right, they do have the Uni-filter foam cone in the airbox. I put the stock filter back in tonight, and I think it runs better. It sounds better anyways. The Comptech filter had a raspy inconsistent sound, I thought. The stock filter gives it a deeper, more uniform growl. I feels like a tad more torque in the 5k-6k range also. When I get the K&N drop in, it can only be better than the other two. I might also order a generic cone to see how that works also.

i dont know if you can use a drop in filter like the k&n, or even the stock paper filter, with the comptech lid. when i installed the icebox i noticed that the foam filter was larger in dimensions than the stock one. the stock filter also sat "in" the lower part of the airbox, whereas the comptech filter sat "on top" of the lower portion of the airbox. so wouldnt using a filter other than the one supplied by comptech, results in the filter moving around?

I just screwed it down until it was tight. I also took the liners out of the screwholes of the Comptech lid, which is the only thing that would keep it from sitting down on the lower box. I haven't heard any movement, but all you would have to do is put down a foam gasket around the bottom box (like what comes with most K&N drop in filters).
