I have used M1 in my last three autos, Chrysler 300, PT Cruiser (sorry got a good deal, actually it was bought back by Chrysler on the Lemon Law but that is another story) and my TSX (5 oil changes) and never noticed a drop of oil loss. But I will keep an eye out for it now. I also use the Mobile 1 oil filter, no reason, I just do.

i noticed that too, i made the switch to mobile 1 and i am constantly checking my oil, cause it seems to get low fast.
my question is how much oil does that car have in it when the dipstick shows oil on the lowest dot?

I've heard and seen evidence in my father's Nissan Maxima that synthetic oil has a tendency to slip past seals a little easier (not flowing paste seals) whereas the conventional didn't. Of course, I don't use hardly any oil at all, but I do have a catch can (which is honestly not catching much). I drive my car somewhat spiritedly now and then as I bus my son from daycare everyday.

I've read that going into vtech tends to burn more oil. Combine the fact that with hodata you reach vtech at 5K rpm and the tendency of synthetic oil slipping past the seals easier (per Moda's post above) and you will most likely burn more oil. Just keep an eye on it.

Agreed. I think we burn a little and I don't believe this to be uncommon. I mean, when Nissan, for instance, tells my dad 1.5 qtrs is nothing to worry about and he's now got 220k miles on it, I'm not worried. Our engines are a lot better than Nissans. Of course, there is the flip side, if you are burning more than 1.5 qtrs in 3k miles, I would certainly have the dealership at least do a test to makes sure everything is within spec.

I use mobile 1 synthetic oil and oil filter. Just changed my oil yesturday, every 5000 miles. Everything looks good. Just have to empty my catch can now and then, but thats fine. I need to get a bigger catch can tho.

Just asking what grade. Some people use 0w30 and some use 10w30 and some use 5w30.
I remember when owning a benz, people post in the forums that if you own an older car, never use a thin grade synthetic or even synthetic at all because the the syn oil would seap throught the gaskets.

Synthetic has one benefit only for an engine like the TSX, it can last longer without needing a change. Maybe another 3 or 4K kms. Do the math, its not worth it. And definately, synthetics do attach themselves to plastics, rubbers (ie gaskets) and the oil does tend to want to penetrate through those materials. I know the TSX's gasket can handle it since I've never seen Acura, in an owner's manual, allow the use of synthetic. But, I would stick to conventional (I use Castrol) and change it more often then recommended. Oil burnage is not a function of "how fast you drive" but how hard you accelerate and deccelerate (heavy downshift or engine braking).
