Cleaning out Exhaust Pipes

Hey everyone. I just bought a used Greddy exhaust but the inside pipes are pretty dirty from normal use. I was wondering what I could do to clean it out a bit or if I even have to? What should I use? Thanks.

Hey chuson, thanks for the tip! I was wondering if it was okay to do that to the whole piping setup for a cat back. I dont' have my intake installed yet and it's broken down into smaller pieces so it would be a perfect opportunity for me to clean it. Just afraid for things like rust and stuff. Thanks.

^^ I mean exhaust (not intake). Oh and for all of you who have the exhaust, did you have to get gaskets to put inbetween each piece?

Gasket = yes on the spring joints, no on the straight joints. Cleaning out the inside, why would you bother? It'll be filthy again the first time you drive it.

This thread just gave me a funny flashback to Chris Elliot in "Cabin Boy" standing on a cliff proclaiming to the world "these pipes are clean!"

There's no reason to clean up the whole exhaust other than taking photos... lol.

It's interesting to do it the first time, but it will get dirty really fast depends on weather. Usually I just clean the tip and the muffler whenever I wash my car, but I don't even go thru the whole process as it's not worth it. Unless I'm detailing my whole car, then yeh, I expected a clean exhaust too....
