CAI- Dangerous in wet or slush filled areas?

Title just about says it all really, I want to put a good CAI system on my 04 tsx but am concerned about the possibility of hydro lock.

Is there anything to worry about in canada's winter ie slush other crap getting into it when driving through it at speeds of 60km an hour or more.

I know last winter it seemed to be a never ending supply of streets full of slush and water.

Dont know much about these things, so be gentle

well i live in vancouver and you know it rains quite often here right
but so far i had no problems with that.
cause there's not really man wholes for water to get inside.
everything is pretty much blocked....
last time
i checked my filter, it was still clean even if i used it for a while comparing to my friend's eagle talon CAI filter.... so you don't really have to worry bout it.

Hydrolocking isn't really a concern with slush, but your filter will get dirty really fast when it's set up in CAI in the winter. You can easily change to SRI for the winter months and back to CAI in the summer.

are the performance gains really worth it to seasonally switch between CAI and SRI? Isnt it like 2HP extra in CAI?

I'm lazy so I've just left mine in SRI. With the hot humid days we've had recently I've wanted to switch to CAI because I can definitely feel the heatsoak.

Is there anything that can be installed to the CAI that prevents hydrolock?

Yes, K&N has a water repellent filter screen you can put over the fliter element.

or a bypass valve. Either way you'll lose a couple hp.

The filter screen doesn't really help to prevent hydrolock, it just keeps water drops off the filter element. If you submerge the filter it will still hydrolock.

Bypass valves work but the hp loss is similar to if you were to just go with SRI.

I live in Calgary. Lots of slush, and I will be converting mine back to SRI when fall comes. Before I put it into CAI I had it in SRI for a little while just to see how much of a difference I felt in power when I put into into full CAI. It was fairly large. With SRI I had a big lag in power between 2-3k rpm, once I converted it into CAI that was gone. Overall, the power band is smoother and feels better in CAI, definitely worth changing back and forth, because it is a fairly quick job.

For those concerned about hydrolocking:

I just drove home in the craziest storm i've ever seen. Those driving in the manhattan area last night know what i mean. I was drving through badly flooded roads and torrential downpours. I was careful of course, but I didnt even feel any hesitations. The car went right through it all. No hydrolock.

I will not worry about hydrolocking anymore after last night

Honestly the car has to submerge, becasue you drive in rain and moisture is already getting in.

It basically has to flood the engine compartment basicaly the whole wheel has to be sunk. I haven't had problmes with my wheels getting submerged fully but this one time it came close.

Northern state parkway rainstorm, yea I was screwed both lanes were submerged into almost a foot....
came out okay..

Basically the consensus is and always will be don't drive into a majorly flooded road (a foot or more) and you'll be fine. I've driven in some really bad rainstorms several times since adding the CAI, including the one Gibson6594 is talking about last night, and no problems.

I've tested this past week in buffalo to long island, lake effect and rain storm. The snow melted and at night became slush, then heavy snow became rain. The car was fine in cai mode, but the 02 sensor went off (check engine light) went away 2 days later.

Also I don't have the front two fog caps. Right now their is only mesh covering those openings.

I might think about adding the cover for recautions
