Beltronics RX65

Well my Beltronics RX65 came today. I have not yet got to use it at all however though. I am going to Buffalo, NY this weekend so that will be the first I get to use it. Here are some pics of it. I will fill you in on how well it works once I have used it a little. Hopefully it doesn't get me into more trouble than it keeps me out of.

Looks good CCC. My first radar was a Bel. They've come along way since being bought out by Escort though.

I read some reviews, and many have said this a very good bang for your buck radar. Good choice

Looks like a good one. I'm waiting until I can muster up the strength and ward off the post-buyer remorse to get the Valentine 1.

I just couldnt justify spend 400 on the radar detector and then another 50 or so for the remote display.

Bringing back old thread..

I just bought a RX65 from ebay too. This is an upgrade from BEL Express 795 and had hard time deciding against Escort 8500 x50 & Valentine 1 1.8 pop2. RX65 received pretty good rating from radartest.com and it was half the price of Valentine. Paid $237 with 2-day shipping. Hopefully this will work great.

I love my V1. Worth every penny. I was driving to another office last week on a less traveled highway (The 241 for those who know) and the V1 picked up a Ka band low signal ahead. Slowed down and about a mile later, right around the bend, there was the cruiser sitting on the side of the road.

Its saved me a few other times as well. Paid for itself as far as im concerned.

^ Likewise, I love my V1. This past month I convinced two of my friends to get it indirectly after driving around Chicago and pinging cops... they were suprised the thing actually worked.

Is it just me, or is the cops around my area smarter and point the radars in positions undetectable? My detector seems to pick up signals a bit later. Last time, it went off, about 10 secs later was they cop. I have it mounted where the rear view mirror is, i have a x50 escort. Never detected a cop which was a mile away.

We're talking about a V1 here. Its just a better piece of equipment that can detect these signals at longer ranges.

But still...im talking about a x50 here....both these radars are considered top of the line equipment, Perhaps my mount is wrong?

Yes the x50 is a very good radar. I tested both an x50 and a V1 head-to-head for 30 days. There were several things that I liked about the x50 over the V1, but in the end the directional arrows on the V1 were too important to lose.

I don't think you've mounted it improperly. I have my V1 mounted in the same position (hardwired above and to the left of my rear-view mirror), and I constantly pick up radar signals from miles away.

Cheapest place would probably be eBay - but don't expect any type of manufacturer warranty if you buy one off there.

I have mine mounted on the right of the rearview, the front sensor is just under the tint strip in the front.

I currently have the Bel Express 795 and it has saved my bacon several times, especially for a $70 detector. Main things I don't like are that it falses a lot and it sometimes doesn't pick up a cop until he's pretty close -- not always, just sometimes. Is the RX65 pretty good at filtering falses? Is the range better than your Bel 795 was? I'm just not into spending $400 on one, either, when the Bel seems to get the job done for about 1/2.

Autoscan mode on the RX65 seems to filter out false alarms better than Express 795. Also I like the feature of voltage meter since I have UR pulleys and its nice to know how low the voltage level drops down with all the accessories on.

Yep, it has a voltage meter, you can configure when it shows. I just have mine show on startup.

peter_bigblock: I've been really happy w/ the filtering abilities. I get ~0 falses on K and Ka bands. I get a lot of X band in DC, but it has a "city" mode which just turns off X, and I don't think any po around here uses X anymore so I just keep X off all the time now.

I get a random laser blip every now and then on the highway, but maybe 1 per roadtrip. I did actually get Lasered once by MD highway patrol it went off, but he let me go. Its true, once it says "Laser" its too late anyway.

Never used it until now?? First thing I tried was voltage meter with all the accessories turned on. With UR pulleys voltage drops down to 12.5v with AC/Defroster/Heated Seats/Heated Mirror/Subs/HID/Foglights turned on. Guess I dont need heavier Optima YT.

yeah I get a random laser blip all the time going up this one hill by school. it happens exactly the same point on the road. the hill is right by the thruway in NY so I think that is where its coming from.

It is definitely to late once the laser warning goes off cause that is how I have gotten my only ticket since having the RX65. I am thinking of getting the beltronics laser jammer to go with it since I go to school in NY where 50% of the cops use laser on the interstate.

I have had the BEL RX 65 for about a yerar and I do not know how I drove w/o it. My father has the Valentine 1. I found them nearly identical in my own side by side comparison. However, the Valentine seems to have a slightly longer range, but the Bel Picks up POP radar. I live in NYC and went to Buffalo, so if your taking route 17 or the thruway, I think you will be fine.

anyways, i ordered one through an amazon.com vendor, $250 shipped, hopefully i don't get totally scammed.

i used to use a basic whistler which worked ok, but over the years, it's detected less and less. Police agencies are probably continually upgrading their equipment which makes detecting with old stuff harder.
