AEM vs Injen vs K&N CAI's
With AEM intakes running $265, K&N Typhoon $230, and Injen $200, are there big differences between them? Those of you who have the AEM or K&N, what made you choose them over the Injen? Ability to convert to SRI if you want to?
I want to go CAI and I'm curious why not Injen for $30-$65 less.

I just bought K&N with free shipping for 220.

And it comes with the filtercharger, and you can get it in more colors then the injen
I don't think there is much of a difference otherwise.

No reason to get the AEM, you can convert the K&N and Injen to SRI mode if you need too, but you can't convert the AEM to CAI.
Injen will squeeze out 1 or 2 more horses, but the K&N comes with a drycharger to keep drops of water off your filter. It's a matter of preference.

Injen seems to be the most popular on this forum, that's probably what I'll go with when the time comes. I haven't heard any reason to get the K&N or AEM other than the dry-sock that comes with the K&N.

I have installed both the K&N and Injen intakes and here is the basic break-down...
Injen has a slightly larger intake pipe than K&N, which might yield slightly high end gain, but at the expense of slightly low end loss. The Injen uses a battery mount while the K&N uses all factory intake mounting locations. There were two versions of Injen produced, and the valve cover vent tube has the tendancy to come off on one design. Not sure if this applies to all Injens, but the one I installed has slight fitment issue of the two pipes. The mating angle didn't seem to be align correctly. The IAT senosr mounting location seems to be way off to the front requiring the wire harness to be pulled forward. The K&N IAT sensor mounting location is at the factory location. The K&N uses much nicer stainless mountling clamps while the Injen uses standard clamps. The K&N also comes with a drycharger to block out splashes. If I had to do it again, it would still be K&N.

Thanks, JTso. Did you notice any difference in driving performance or sound between the two intakes? It sounds like you have the Injen now; why, initially, did you swap the K&N for the Injen?

I presume that there is a lot more intake noise than the Comptech Ice-box? Is the intake noise less than the injen?
Thanks

I see what you mean, Injen's dyno claims about 10hp peak gain, K&N's claims about 8 -- I'd say too close to call given they're different dynos, etc. I have the Hondata reflash & DC header, do you think one would work better than the other with that? (That's what you have, JTso, right? So I imagine your answer is K&N!)
If the K&N is better-made, for $15 that's probably a better choice, and you do get the dry-sock which is some peace-of-mind if it's wet out. Do you just leave that on all the time? Is it restrictive?

For Hondas and Acuras, I prefer AEM. Betrer A/F ratio than Injen, The Injen is most powerful, most gains over the other two intakes, but wihtout proper tuning can lead to bad effects, long-term. This si just my guess.
K&N is fine as well, nice colors, we have 3 to choose from, all are vailable for order, email PRacing, sales@pracing.com we'll soon become a board sponsor, hopefully... haha.
I got Injen in my Mazda6 (AKA TSX Killa) lol, and it is awesome, about 12 whp gains, www.cp-e.com has one for our cars, at up to 24 whp peak gains!!!!! MAFci customizer and all. Not available fo te TSX, but I though I'd share.

We have a natural CAI here. It's called winter!

My brother just bot an AEM cold air for his '99 Accord 2.3L, we're going to install this weekend. I want to hear how it sounds and then, assuming I like it -- I'm guessing I will -- I'm going to buy either the Injen or the K&N. $143, that's hard to pass up!

After I posted the link, I then went ahead and made the purchase. Mine shipped today.
If you are interested in the Eibach lowering springs...the price was slashed to $152 dollars, which is $80 savings....It is a great deal but I am unsure if I want to drop the car.

BUT DOES THE K&N WHISTLE WHEN YOU SHIFT?
I know this is off topic but I bought a K&N for my TSX last year and installed it. Sounded, looked and felt great but... My brother has a Injen on his 5MT 06 Scion TC and when he shifts his car sounds like it has a turbo (blowoff valve sound from the back pressure). The TSX 5AT makes this powerful shooting growl (nice poping sound) when you shift near VTEC.
Granted I have a 5AT but i use sport shift mode 99% of the time. I`m just curious does the slightly bigger pipe on the injen make that sound? Or is it just the Scion TC. I just bought a 6MT 2001 Honda S2000 and NEED to get a CAI. Should I go K&N again or go for injen?
