Question Tint material question??

I like the metallic look (rather than making my PWP look very b/w)... but I don't want to risk interfering with my navi signal.

>>Can anyone recommend a good tint that will look metallic without any chance of interference?

>>Or, if I just did metallic on the sides with nothing on the back it should be fine...right?

I'm not thinking of going too dark (maybe 35 at the darkest)...and I have some time to figure this out (moving to IL for 6 months, don't think I'll need it too much there...but definately by the time I move to TX within the next year and half!)

...I don't have any experience with tints so I'd appreciate your

Do you mean the mirror/reflective type tint?

Metallic describes the materials used to create the film. It is not very reflective at all, and unless you work with tint all day long, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between (good) dye, ceramic and metallic.

Got it, thanks. Like I said... I don't know much about tint.

So I think my real question is:

What's a good mirror ceramic tint?

I don't want anything too dark, would 50% block out enough rays and give a little bit of a mirror look? Or would it not make much of a difference? Also, how do you think 50/35 would look?

If anyone has some pics of a PWP with mirror tint I'd love to see it!

Thanks!

For $500 they should replace the entire door if the tint gets scratched. That's simply the most expansive 1 layer tint job I have ever heard about, on a sedan. And you didn't get felt installed which means you will be utilizing that warranty soon. Wow! and a double Wow!

dear god... that's alot of money... either i somehow snuck off with a deal (the guy was gone when i picked up the car and i was negotiating with the lady there), or you got ripped... i'm pretty sure i got a small deal, and you got a small rip... 110 difference is quite significant for the same thing...

i have one little part of the tint that didn't turn out right that i have to go back for, but i have no scratches yet, the guy tried to tell me that he didn't have scratching problems with TSXs, and he'd give me the moleskin but only cuz i was insisting, but insisted that it wasn't necessary.. psssh

my panels seem to be alright though, and no scratches so far best of luck getting it fixed... i'm sure it'll be fine, just bring ur warranty card

Hmmm... Any other ideas for a high quality tint w/mirror look that won't interfere with navi (and won't fade into something unpleasant and most likely purple)?

Or any reliable plan for metallic...none on the back? Would it still interfere?

I don't know anything about mirror tint so I can't comment on a good brand.
But most quality tint films, including dye, should carry a lifetime guarantee against fading.

Some people have metallic on the windows and dye on the back windshield, so it's been done before.

I think a good question to ask is for the people who do not have moleskin.

How long have you had the tint without scratches. It looks like many posted shortly after they purchased the tint.

I had 20% on my Tc but when I get my TSX I will go with 5% I never really had any problems with cops here but they did always look at my car.

I've had my Madico tint with no moleskin for about 9 months or so and only have one or two very fine vertical scratches. However, I got pulled over last Friday for illegal tint on front windows and was told to get it taken off soon, and let off with a warning. I don't want to take it off, but I don't want to be hassled, either.

Do you guys wipe your seals down with a cloth daily?

Most people that don't have scratches live in rainy areas or don't put their windows down much.

Here in Florida almost all the TSX owners I speak with have scratched tint. It rains here all summer but no one puts their windows down much due to the heat.

1. Brand and line of tint: FormulaOne Pinnacle
2. Type of tint: ceramic
3. Shade of tint: 35% all around with a visor on the front window
4. Tint shop that did the installation: Xpert tint, Houston TX (the only F1 dealer in Houston
5. Price paid: too much! but it was part of a clear bra deal so no separate price
6. Moleskin: no
7. Scratches: no but the car is only one week old. The tint shop owner claims that F1 is very scratch resistant and they clean out the seal very well after the install. The theory is that the water/baby shampoo solution they use may actually form a sticky place for dirt to form. So they clean it well and claim they have no problems.
8. Navigation: yes, and no issues with NAV or AM reception. I live on the fringe of an AM station that was hard to pull in with my last car. The TSX has good reception and I noticed no degradation after the tint. F1 is supposed to be non-conductive film. HO is conductive. The conductive film can form a ground from your AM/FM antenna and the rear window defroster. No issue with the F1 tint for me.

The F1 tint is pretty good. I live where you need tint and have had 4 cars with tint. The F1 ceramic is good stuff
