is it worth it?

i have a 04 tsx navi, when i bought the car it only came with one key, i called an acura dealer in nc (stevenson acura) and they told me for 1 remote (for the keyless entry) and 1 key after programing and labor charges it comes to about 273$$

is this worth it or can i get a better deal somewhere else?? should i consider different options such as an aftermarket alarm system? the acura dealer said the key comes to 43$ and the remote comes to 134$ so what do u guys think should i bite the bullet?

thx

Do you need the second key, or fob?

Frankly, I'd be a bit worried about the second key, fob and valet key "floating" around somewhere. Just a leetle beet.

You should just get a Clifford remote start/alarm on the car and they usually come with a main remote and an additional remote. It should be cheaper than that if you look on Ebay (brand new) and then you'd have remote start and a kick ass alarm too! I love mine and I bought everything for about 200ish brand new.

i wouldnt mind buying something like that but i wouldnt know how to install it >< and i didnt find any DIY thread unless i didnt search right?

question about that, if i do install it myself do i have to bypass the stock alarm casue im sure it still has it i know this casue i locked the door and unlocked it by pulling the unlock lever at the top of the door and the alarm went off, took me awhile to figure out how to turn it off without messin with the battery =P

and yes davidspalding having a second key (for back up) and a fob wouldnt hurt, its a nice feature =]

I've never heard of NOT getting a second with the car; I'd complain and get one for free, or try a different dealership. Otherwise, def not worth the money (unless you're in a position where you're able to just splurge the $300 on a key)... there is that valet key somewhere.

did you buy this car new or was it used because most cars come with at least two keys, two remote and a valet key. i see you called stevenson acura-where ru I am in Hampstead. I went to S.A. when I was in the process of buying a car-they did not want to deal ended up getting my 06 tsx in PA.

I'm only guessing, that you bought this (pre-owned?) 2004 at a non-Acura dealership somewhere. I'd inquire as to why they only gave you 1 key and fob ... Why would someone sell it and not provide all keys ... unless they were a total dumb bunny and had lost a black key + fob, and a valet key (yikes). Dunno, I'm a little suspicious of this. Maybe a key is hidden somewhere in the car for "emergencies." I do agree, having a second key that's not with you is good if you get mugged, lose the key/fob somewhere. Being able to unlock the driver's door and start 'er up is a Good Thing.

As to getting a second key ... you might ask how much just for a new valet key. Probably the same. $43 for just a replacement black key is a no-brainer for me. Go get one for contingencies.

[1]Using my 2006 as a model, don't know if that was in the 2004.

Why don't you use this opportunity to get a switchblade key mod? Do a search for FLBusa... I'm really tempted in getting it. I guess I need a reason to.. but it's such an inconvenience for me to have it made - nearest Acura for me is about 1.2hrs drive or so...

my car only came with remote and valet key. i bought it used from local seller. i had a master key made from a dealer for 43. i accidentially locked my keys in my car, they were on the set. AAA had to get them out for me at the expense of possiblely scratching my tint.

if you really want a new key. get an 07 tl key.. then you can say your getting the new key to be cool. get one thats milled. then i guess you PAY them to cut it.. but they should cut and program it for free. esp for u since they DIDNT give u the keys....
[i got mine cut for free] just cuz i took my car to this one service rep for all the tsbs [getting everything out of it that i can] and he "took care" of me.. lol. GL
