No, if you were Acura you want to maximize your profit on every vehicle.

Then you could sell a plastic wood kit for about the same price as a real wood kit and make even more.

Yep. The wood is fake.

Just like the aluminum.

But they do a pretty good job on both.

The wood is fake just like the leather.
The leather is a "synthetic" leather

Honda knows that it can manufacture wood more accurately and precisely than trees can.

That's not true, is it? I thought I read that only the side bolsters are pleather, but the perforated portion is real leather (though not of the highest quality, like Lexus).

But the wood, to me, is obviously fake. That's not too bad though, some of the real wood in certain high end luxury cars look so bad they look fake. I do think Acura should've put real wood in the TSX, though...it's not like there are acres and acres of it inside the car. It's just one strip running across the dash, it's not even used in the rear.

Over $25k?! Isn't that a little low to have real wood inside of a vehicle? That's Accord and Camry territory. If you ask me, real wood doesn't belong in a $25k car...maybe a $30k car, but even that is still kind of low.

I think the TSX is okay sans REAL wood...I really like the look of the fake stuff--it looks real to me Why use more expensive, real stuff if fake wood does just as good a job?

That's true, but then Acura could set a precedent by doing so.

Yeah...that's true. Then again, Acura would have to "catch up" first before they started setting precedents. Right?

Real wood shows prestige. I have no idea about this, but I wonder if real wood isn't as reliable. Plastics are used for all sorts of stuff wood used to be used for, so I'm just wondering if maybe it will stay looking better longer. Clearly people like real wood though, so if they could do it easily they would, it's hard I guess because you can't just totally mass produce the organic material.

Does anyone else have the rest of the wood-grain kit (not wood on the wheel)? I like it a lot, but it's applied (skilfully) on top of the black. I should take some pics sometimes. I assume only people with the wood dash insert would do this.

Gee, you know how to make a useful post. Not only was the answer that the wood is fake given clearly before, showing you're adding zero value, but you make offensive attacks for no reason. I know you're just playing, but what possibly did you think you were adding by posting?

I think the wood in the TSX is nice, but the color could be a bit darker rather than lighter. Perhaps like a burl walnut color would make a nice addition.

I'll have to take some pictures soon, but here's what it is:

If you have seen the "wood" strip on the parchment interior that goes around the dash, the wood-grain kit "completes that look." So they adhere custom plates of the exact same material to the center console (covering all of the black areas, like the storage doors, cup holder slots, etc. They have holes to allow you to see the metal look area you're supposed to press to open those, but they're nicely curved in, so they fit well. The kit also covers the 4-door areas where you have controls, like the window controls. Make sense? It unifies that look.

I have felt the same way in the past, but I really liked the look of this kit when I saw it in one at the dealer. I would much prefer however if they replaced the panels instead of placing the wood-like stuff on top.

Uhmm.....the VW Passats have real wood in certain trim levels at around 25k. Wood on all four doors and on the center console.

Moreace, you're a man after my own heart - or maybe I should choose some other way to put it!

There's another thread going here started by someone who recently got a Helms manual for their TSX. I've asked them if it would be possible to replace the aluminum controls on the steering wheel with what look to be similar sized controls - in black - from the Honda Accord Coupe. They've responded with a couple of part numbers I may want to check out. No, I won't be trying to do this on my own - don't want to mess up what I've got already.

The only cars for under $30,000 that can be had with "real" wood that I know of are the Saab 9-3 and VW Passat.

My perspective on this is, if you are not going to put "real" wood in the car, then don't bother faking it. the plastic wood trim in the parchment interior, and the faux metal in the quartz and ebony interior give a cost-cutting kind fo feel to the car. I say do it for real, or don't do it at all.

True. I saw an older Lexus and the wood was dull and dry. The glossy polish look was no longer there. So that's one advantage for fake wood.

But recently I saw the interior of the VW Touareg SUV and they're using something new. The gloss on the wood is extra thick - it's like the wood veneer is sitting under a thin layer of glass. It looked incredible. I don't know how long it's going to last, but I suspect it'll last longer than a lot of the current wood out there on luxury cars.

I don't have a problem with fake wood, just as long as it looks authentic. I can't wait to see the new TL in person, from the pictures the fake wood looks incredible!

The Saab 9-5 has a coating like that over the wood. The problem, however, is it makes real wood look a little fake.

Outside of a Bentley, RR or Maybach, I can't understand why anyone would want wood be it real or fake in their car?
But thats just me.

Well, it just looks different from black, I don't care if it looks like wood or not, I just prefer it to the black. I actually don't know I want an organic piece of wood in my car, seems out of place.

Bentley, RR and Maybach use way too much wood - that's just overkill, IMO. I think wood, used appropriately, adds a nice luxury touch to the inside of a car; fake wood doesn't bother me as long as it looks nice. I feel the same away about chrome metal. I also like it when they use real metal, like in the pricey sports cars from Mercedes - looks modern and cool.

Yeah, those touareg interiors are mighty fine. The wood gloss actually is too thick for my taste. I like what they did in the new range rovers...a nice matte finish. regardless, the interior of a car is a mighty harsh environent for any organic material.

Very nice, useless post. I'll be sure to check for plastic beams when I buy a new house.

Brainless wonder.
