by the way...they gave me a white tsx for a loaner while they do my car...loving that one as well.

i paid $185 for the clear bra kit and install it by myself.

Question: How to prevent paint chip?

Answer: Don't drive the car, park it in your garage forever. Better yet, don't buy one!!!

I have heard other cases of excessive hood chipping on TSX. Shame!

It's all very subjective to the way you're driving. It's pretty hard to say excessive, because some people won't even recognise they are tailgating while they really are.

Bottom line, get yourself a good clear bra kit. I got one myself, and it's the best investment I've put on this car so far. If I hadn't installed it, it would have done just like my first Accord back then: almost completely sandblasted after two years of intensive driving.

Hell I have to change my windshields and sealed beams every 2 years at the very maximum, because I can't see shit. I don't expect my paint to stay on unprotected in these conditions

And I especially don't whine about the brittleness of the paint! It's just common sense to protect it, just like you'd buy insurance for the car!!!

My TSX is about a month old and I've got a pretty bad chip already in the hood. This is my second Acura - when I bought my first (2003 CL-S) in 2002, one of the two things that had me worried was the paint quality, second worry being tranny failures in the CL. Neither of those were enough to turn me into buying something else.
When I had a week to decide which car to buy on a limited budget after the CL got wrecked, I ended up right back at Acura after shopping Infinity, Honda, Mazda, Volvo, and BMW. I drive on the beltway pretty much every day, so rock chips are inevitable. I just suck it up. I'm too cheap to get the 3M clearbra and it's too late now since it's already chipped so oh well.
Funny how with the CL-S I was dissapointed when I got the first chips. With the TSX I saw the first chips and pretty much said "fuck it, shit happens". Kind of how parents are overly cautious with first borns but if their second kid wants to take up knife juggling it's perfectly ok

Does the 04 TL have this same paint chipping easily problem?

If it is, this also could be my 1st and last Acura.

goodness, this thread is so one person bickers...i got chips in my paint - that automatically means that acura paint is horrible!

then the next person reads it, "hey my paint is chipped too!" "i guess ALL acura's have bad paint.".

yea b/c that makes so much sense. that's how misconceptions start...this has to be the stupidest thread i have ever read, and i cant believe that some people find merit in "acura having bad paint".

grow a brain.

For a few years now I've put up with excessive brake dust on my Z3. Today is the icing on the cake. I noticed a paint chip on my CG TSX! You can probably imagine the devastation I feel. All the excitement and joy in my life is gone. At this point, life is no longer worth living. When my body turns up, please forward this thread to the EPA so one day you might again enjoy durable, oil based paints.
