When Do I Change Oil?

When Do I Change Oil?
Hey Guys:
I just upgraded from a 98 Accord Coupe and I changed the oil every 3,000 miles. Now, my TSX manual says to change every 10,000? Is that right? Maybe I'm just paranoid. Can someone help me? Thanks!

If you are in a part of the country where the temperature gets over 90 degrees, you are considered in the "extreme" category of maintainance. Instead of your oil life being 10k, it will be 5k (like it is for me in Texas). On your Accord, the changes were every 3750, not 3000. Basically, change your oil every 5000 miles. Rotate and balance your tires at every other oil change and follow your journal on the other fluid and filter changing.

IMO, 10K is way too long of an oil change interval unless you are using synthetics like Mobil 1. If you're in a metropolitan area with a lot of stop and go and short drives, or extreme climates as kurt mentioned, I'd change as often as 5K miles even with synthetic oil.
I use Mobil 1 and occasionally Royal Purple synthetics in my cars and I change them no later than 5K miles. My main reasons are: I live in the city, I drive my cars hard out of habit, and winter temperatures can be extreme where I live. For a mainly highway-driving commuter car in mild climates, sythetic oils at 10K miles is adequate maintainance methinks.

I've used Mobil 1 out here and changed it every 7k. Stick to the Honda recommended cycles. If they say it can go 10k, I'd listen to them. They are, as you know, the manufacturer that has Mobil make their oil for them specifically to their specifications.
