Today, when I filled up, the pump read 16.04 gallons. I have never put so much gas in the car. The most I have ever put is about 15.5 gallons.
My car has navigation. The used the trip computer accessible through the navigaion screen. The trip range was down to zero when I filled up.

I believe the tank is 17.1 gallons. I think the most I ever put in was around 15.8 gallons and that seemed like waaaaaay after the warning light came on.

Explanations: Once the nozzle has clicked, if you keep on filling slowly, you will be able to fill an extra 2.75 gals.
I've filled once to 19.45gals, but I believe that pump might have been actually off by a little.

I thought that filling up past the first click is bad for the car. I don't know about the TSX but for other cars I have heard something about some kind of canister or something getting fouled up. Please shed light on filling up past the first click. Thanks.

for EVER more!
I tried to Top Off (filling past clicks) last week, and gas started overflowing. Not on to me, our cleverly designed tsx's overflow goes under the car so you dont get soaked or ruin the paint. :-D

1. in warmer weather, the fuel can expand and thus overflow
2. you can spill fuel onto your shoes ;-)
- releases gas vapors into the air, thereby negating the work of your car's anti-pollution devices
1. gas pumps are designed to recover vapors. This is done via a vacuum line in the nozzle. The liquid fuel (as opposed to vapor) level tells the pump to click off. If you continue to pump more fuel, the vacuum is still going, and it sucks fuel out of your tank and puts it back into the gas stations reservoir. And yes, you still pay for the fuel you gave back (the fuel is only monitored as it flows out of the pump and into your car).

If you spilled gas, this is only because you filled in too quickly.
I've never had any problems with gas overflowing. You need to drive around for only 3-4 miles to neutralise this completely. Fuel doesn't expand much with heat. Gaseous vapours do.
In order to fill the rest of the tank at the right rate, I will either pulse and click until I've added 2.75 gals, or just slightly retrieve the nozzle in order for me to see and control the gas flow and make sure there's no spills (there will be gas vapour emissions this way).
And I've never had any CELs set off or any failure attributale to doing this. Since I drive a lot, it does help me stretch the intervals of my visits to the gas stations.

Interesting tidbits (link where I found them, followed by quotes...there are many more websites that state this stuff)

Topping off at the pump may not help bottom line
“What happens when the tank gets filled is, liquid fuel contacts a tank shut-off system telling it to stop dispensing fuel,” said Art Boroff, vice president of sales at Healy Systems Inc, in Hudson, N.H. “When you top off, you sort of bypass the shut-off so you can get more in the tank, but what happens is the pump shuts off, but the vacuum keeps going. What you're actually doing is sucking up gasoline already in the tank.”
That's right. Topping off not only doesn't give you more gasoline, but it also takes some away. And you still pay for it.

Topping off the gas tank can result in your paying for gasoline that is fed back into the station's tanks because your gas tank is full.
You need extra room in your gas tank to allow the gasoline to expand. If you top off your tank, the extra gas may evaporate into your vehicle’s vapor collection system. That system may become fouled and will not work properly causing your vehicle to run poorly and have high gas emissions.
Topping off your gas tank may foul the station's vapor recovery system.
Gasoline vapors are harmful to breathe.
Once the nozzle clicks off the first time, the gas you’re paying for (at these prices!) is NOT going into your tank. It’s stuck in the hose, or getting ready to spill on the next person.
Did you know that...
Spilling a “shot glass” (one ounce) of gasoline produces the same volatile organic compound emissions as a car driving 56 miles?

Gasoline nozzles are designed to shut off automatically when the fuel tank is full. So attempts to force more fuel into the tank do not work. The gasoline actually gets stuck in the hose or spills onto the ground, creating a potential groundwater contaminant.

I find it odd though b/c if I stop fueling when it kicks off in my Explorer, its not all the way full. However, if I feed another 1-2 gallons into it, not only does the gauge reach the "F" it goes a little above "F" which tells me that I am in fact getting more gas in it.

I guess the extra 200-300km I drive with the method I mentionned is actually just placebo.

I'll just stick with how it's supposed to be done, and save the earth for future generations

Anyway, I didn't even know you could put that much gas in the car, maybe I should try it out sometime.
I notice that the TSX doesn't progressively drop fuel however it notches its way down (at least what I notice on fill ups). So does the extra 2.x gallons help keep the first drop in the fuel meter from happening beyond 30 mi? Or does it generally take longer to empty your gauge ie. Highway driving around 230-240 mi I reach midpoint. (I hope I'm not confusing anyone)
And, you sure those guys aren't tinkering with that pump meter?? I thought $50 a tank was too much =P
