What 3rd party Navi unit are you using and how much you paid for it?

And if you make a wrong turn, you gotta pull over, take it out, and try and find your street and then how to get back in the right direction.
I used to think like you, who needs an expensive navigation system? It's not for everyone. For me and my needs, it's worth its weight in gold.
Ex: Oh gee man, Sudden bad storm, I need to get more washer fluid. Where's the nearest Canadian Tire. click-click. Oh, there, 8 km from here. Take this exit, take left at A street, then take right at B street, drive 3km, and then take right again at D street. Buy the fluid. Get back on highway. No stopping, no wondering, no looking for street names in the storm at night. No nothing.
And, and I feel like eating at X place, let's see, where's the nearest....

Boy, my TomTom was the best investment I've ever made. My recent flight to NY and having the GPS in the rental was a life saver! I definitely would've been lost like there's no tomorrow on the streets of NY! Damn narrow and confusing streets! It warns you of tolls that you might be crossing and gives you the option to avoid it.
Cars were speeding like they have to get somewhere urgently, tailgating me... no way would I have been able to read a map and navigate through NY street hell.

I'm moving to the DC metro area and wanted to see which one I should get. The Nuvi looks like the best thing out right now. Do I really need to mount it on the windshield? Where do you guys have your mounted?

Since the majority of members responding to the Tomtom and Garmin navi's, how about those Aftermarket Dvd players that come w/ navi? Other than the Avic being an "all in one" entertainment system, how does the navi in particular compare to the tomtom or garmin?
