Thumbs up Wet sanded part of my car....Big pics inside (56k beware)

So my buddy and I have always wanted to try wet sanding. I decided to try it on a piece of my front bumper where the orange peel is pretty noticable. Used 3M 2000 grit sand paper, Meguiars paint cleaner, 3M Finishing compound/glaze, and then Meguiars NXT wax. We applied the paint cleaner and finishing compound with a high speed rotory buffer with a 3M foam pad....here are the before and after

Yeah the wet sanding turned out awesome. Its just very labor intensive. I was going to wet sand the entire car, but I don't think I'm gonna do that now. I actually wet sanded some scratches that I had around the car...some of them were pretty bad...and them came out looking showroom again. What my plans are now is to use 3M's Rubbing compound then hit with the finishing glaze and then wax to the whole car. That should give me the best possible shine just shy of wet sanding the whole car.

Yes my painted. They are actually polished and painted. They are polished on the face and the lip and then color matched in the pockets. I'll post up some pics soon. I have to clean up the car and wheels and put some new center caps in.

you do realize that you just removed the clearcoat in that area. it's not like honda layed on their paint thick. you typically wet sand a car after you paint it.... and you paint it knowing that you are going to wet sand it... so you add a few more coats to the paint process.

I was wondering about that...

why would you wet sand your car?

that's what shops do when they first paint the car to get rid of all the imperfections and orange peel.

the only thing similar to what you are doin is to clay your car. not wet sand it.

am i missing something here?

Orange peel? What are you talking about?

All you did was strip your clearcoat, who knows how much though...

orange peel is a term used to describe a paint job that wasn't wet sanded good enough to get the paint to look smooth.

it looks wavy and bumpy, similar to the surface of an orange.

Orange peel is usually a result of improper mixture of paint or incorrect air pressure during painting. Some do wet sand the new paint for a better finish but I believe it's done prior to applying the clear coat. If you wet sand after the clear coat, then...

So this happend to his factory paint job?? I would have liked to see the before and how this look. How would wet sanding fix this if your not taking off the paint to replace it?
