warming up the engine?

I have about 600 miles on my 06 and have followed info on this site regarding the break-in period. I let my engine sit for 15-30 seconds before driving.

1.) My question: If I stop for getting gas or to go to a store for around 10 minutes, is it still recommended to let the engine warm up? I'm not sure if this is really to let the engine warm up or to help clean stuff out of it.

2.) Is it still a good idea to let it warm up like this after break in?

Thanks.

Unless it's below zero out, you really don't need to warm up the car at all. All you're doing is wasting gas, and engines warm up 10x faster with load on them than sitting idle anyways. Just keep the revs below 3k when it's flat cold. high revs + flat cold engine = baaaaaaddd

Simply google it.

"Here's what the Canadian environment ministry has to say:

•An idling engine releases twice as many exhaust fumes than a vehicle in motion.
•If every driver in Canada avoided idling for 5 minutes a day, we could prevent 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from being emitted.
•No more than 30 seconds of idling is needed for oil to circulate through your engine. Many components, such as the wheel bearings, tires and suspension system will only warm up once the vehicle is moving.
•Restarting your car many times has little impact on engine components, adding only around $10 per year to the cost of driving, money that is recovered in fuel savings.
•Ten seconds of idling uses more fuel than restarting the engine.
•Idling can damage your engine since it is not operating at its peak temperature where fuel is completely burned. Fuel residue from incomplete burning can damage engine parts.
•Idling a vehicle for 10 minutes a day uses an average of 100 litres of gas a year. If gas costs 70 cents a litre, you will save $70 per year, just by turning your key.
•During the winter, Canadians idle their vehicles for a combined total of 75 million minutes/day. This is equal to a vehicle idling for 144 years. Although we idle our vehicles about 40% less in summer, we still waste an enormous amount of fuel and money.
•A block heater warms the oil and engine coolant, making it easier to start your vehicle and improving winter fuel economy by as much as 10%."

Waiting more than a few seconds (unless it is terribly cold) is only prolonging the wait time to drive the car. Enjoy your TSX!!

^^ agree with both posters. IMHO let it warm up a few seconds to get the fluids circulating again and go easy on it once you do start driving for a minute or two.

I just sit for a good minute to let everything flow.

Unless I'm really running on a chase for time, in which I wait a few seconds then go.

I also wait a good 5 minutes before I bring my TSX to high revs. Just to you know...keep my lead foot from evolving..

I typically wait 30 seconds in good weather, and just over a minute in really cold weather, unless I need the defroster to do its work...

Then again, do not go crazy while the car is warming up: keep the revs low and don't put too much load on the engine until your temp needle is in its normal range.

If you are really worried about the oil circulating through the engine faster, since this is the worst problem with cold starts, you can switch to a good synthetic oil (like Mobil1), which is more fluid at lower temperatures than the OEM 5W30.

I usually wait only as long as it takes for me to get settled in and turn on my electronics. Typically, that's no more than 15-30 seconds.
