visible light transmittance of TSX factory glass?
Anyone know? I have tried searching but found no definite answer. The inspection stations around here won't pass you if you are <32% VLT Net.

What is the light transmittance of the factory glass? This is the % light that comes through, like 35% tint lets 35% of the light in. NC looks at net light transmittance when checking your tint for yearly inspections. The limit is 32% net. So if you, for example, have factory glass that is 70%, but only 35% tint, your light transmittance would be .245 and you would fail inspections.
I guess I could let the inspection station check it before I apply tint, and adjust the tint I use accordingly. I was hoping to avoid that if I could.

I think he wants to know how much the stock glass is, so that when/if he were to get tints, the the stock glass tint (very minor) + his aftermarket tint % does not exceed regulation.

Anyway, I'm sure a tint shop would measure your current tint % before choosing a tint if you asked.
Otherwise, find a photographer friend who owns a luxmeter and use that. Pull into a dark garage, measure the light from a work light at 6" from the frontmost part of the work light. Then put the light against the glass to be measured and repeat the test from the inside of the window at 6" minus the glass thickness. Divide the 2nd measurement by the 1st, and you have your transmission percentage.

Not all tint shops have a Photometer type device to measure the the light transmission. I would venture to say that the stock glass transmits 94-98% light. Another factor that would put your window tint out of spec is how much dirt you have on your window. If you go get your windows tested with dirty dirty windows, it could put you out of spec.
