Valentine-1

I'm a V-1 fan, I have been for years. On my cars, I have the main unit tucked into the pocket of a "visor orgainizer" on the passenger's sunvisor, and the V-1 remote display located in the console. This makes the setup invisible from outside the car, and mostly invisible from inside the car. To connect the main unit to the remote display, I've run cord down the "A" pillar, under the glovebox and into the console.

Problem is that I've never done this on a car with side curtain airbags, which seem to go as far as the upper part of the "A" pillar. Looking at the Helms service manual this *seems* possible to do, but I'd rather hear about any pratfalls before I find them myself.

Has anyone had this part of the car apart yet? I'd rather not be the first one to get the side curtain airbag to deploy in his garage!

If you go to HandA-accessories, look under the 2003 Accord for the instructions to install the DVD-Entertainment system, that will give you the best instructions I've found on removing the side air bags. I don't think you have the same issue as you do with the steering wheel airbags.

this is sort of (un)related but does anyone know if there are group buys for Valentine-1s? I'm looking to buy one for myself and possibly another two as gifts, thanks!

There was a thread on this earlier that had a couple good links showing how to do it.

on my 330, i've tapped into the overhead console to get power into my 8500. i bet you could do the same for the tsx and still mount it on your visor.

No, and they're only sold from the factory. However, what you can do is call them and ask if they have any refurbished ones for sale. I believe they go for $50-100 less. They don't advertise them on their web site.

But don't worry about the price anyway. How often can you buy the absolute best of breed for only a few hundred bucks anyway. It will pay for itself many times over.

Passport 8500 w/ smart cord

I have the 8500 mounted on my visor and the cord down the left A pillar and put the smart cord button into the unused square next to the sun roof button. Not hard to find accessory power and ground under there either. (Didn't have to remove the plastic cover since the cord is flat and slipped nicely into the side of the plastic A pillar cover.)

Looks good and the 8500 is great.
