Upgrade/Install Factory Nav to Non-Nav TSX
Hey y'all. This is my first post as a new TSX owner. I have some buyer's remorse for not getting a navigation system. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but has anyone put a factory navigation system into a factory non-nav TSX? I am considering doing just that to my 2005 non-nav TSX, but I am uncertain if the non-nav tsx is missing the gps antenna or other things. I notice the microphone is in my TSX now, but not sure about the other stuff. Thanks
BTW, anyone know where I can find the TSX service manual so I can install the nav myself :-D

from looking a the wiring harnesses in the FSM (which you can get from www.helminc.com ) i think the '04 and '05 should be close enough, but you'll probably need to buzz out the wires to be sure

I was gonna do this conversion and then realized i just don't have the time to devote to it plus for the price I may as well get an aftermarket unit. I priced out the aftermarket unit and local installers don't want to touch the TSX because of the indash din. Bugger... so i was going to trade in the ride for a navi and well that was even worse.
In all, i'll wait till the '07s come out, or wait till the '08s, and then go navi.

you know, i regret not getting navi, but i dont like the idea of paying $2k for navi for only one car. since my memory has been starting to fail me, i have been thinking of getting a pda. so now i have been looking into pdas with built in gps. not as cool as navi but much more useful, especially for when work sends me to the middle of nebraska.

Let me help you!
My TSX has navi. I just went to vacation, and we paid extra to have a portable/aftermarket navi system for our rental. For the first time in my life, I found myself yelling at the machine. It'll tell me not to touch it if i'm moving (or if someone gets into the car while I'm working on the navi)...it'll tell me to make a turn, then quickly do a u-turn, then turn back onto the road I was on. The most annoying thing was "Make a left turn in 1 mile...make a left turn in 1/2 mile...make a left turn in 1 mile..." ...and all this was when I was driving straight on a straightaway lol.
My whole family was practically yelling at the thing (we hardly used it because it was so bad). I guess the Acura navi spoiled us
But an aftermarket navi is better than no navi...I almost got lost a couple of times (thanks to the navi), but it got me out of it as well

I have the Pioneer N3 and I'm very happy with it's navi capabilities. It also can do Navi traffic like the RL. Helped me a ton on my last trip to SoCal and was never wrong. I just updated to the new maps and it was only $15 on Ebay. I also have it integrated to my bluetooth kit, TV, Ipod, DVD, and Sirius. It's not a bad option for aftermarket.
Before you take the plunge you should figure out how often you will actually use the Navi. I use my navi about 5% of the time, and my audio stuff like 95% of the time. I bought the deck mainly for the audio stuff, the navi was just a bonus. That's just my personal experience. I guess I don't travel enough

my manager has the magellan i think, and he loves it. as far as garmin and tom tom, i think if you take a look at them, you'll find one you like.
if you've never used a factor installed navi, i think you'd probably love them.
my mom went for a ride with someone who has a tom tom, and she wanted one.
they serve the same purpose practically, and are approximately 1/2 the price. you sacrafice some features and especially screen size, but i think it's a better option than adding a factory navi to your car.

Thanks
Thanks for all of your responses. It seems the concensus is not to try to convert. Its just hard to believe that the '05 is as hard to convert as the '04 being that the '05 has XM. I guess I'll have to wait until I am ready to get the '07 TSX Turbo !!!

Are you so sure? I know this is a topic for another thread, but with the RDX coming out (which is based on the TSX) it only makes sense that the new TSX is coming shortly after and will have the new powertrain.
Now back to topic... I am going to get the Pioneer AVIC-S1. I don't have buyers remorse any more, thanks again!!!!!

Just trade it in for a newer one with Navi. The conversion is not worth it at all.
When people think of paying extra for the Navi they think is it worth it to have a map on the screen? It's way way way more than just a map on a screen. It's being able to find the closest gas station, restraunt, atm, etc. Also the voice activation is a kicker. There is just way more than a map on a screen helping you get somewhere. It also gives your car more of a personality.
BTW- Does anyone with Navi use the mans voice at all? I asked my girl if I shold use the mans voice and she said, "Hell no! It sounds like some 50 year old man telling me what to do." So that's why I kept Nikki's voice. She's nice to me....most of the time.

Just a quick update. I ended up getting the Pioneer AVIC-S1 and it works very well. In the end I was actually happy I didn't get the NAV TSX because here in DC the map database would be really outdated and that is very frustrating when roads are missing. On a sad note I ended up selling my TSX all together :-( It was a little too much to handle cost wise, so I just dumped it. It was an excellent car and will be greatly missed. I'll just have to wait a few years an get a used TSX Turbo!!!! BTW, anyone want the Neo Ion ipod adapter I pulled from it?
