Unwanted OverBraking in emergency situations

Yesterday, I was going about 45mph, this was the 1st time I happen to hit the brakes hard to avoid a collision at cars doing the same in front of me, fortunately I was not following too close.
Now for the question . . .
I've hit the brake pedal as hard as I could for less than a second and released it watching my mirror to see what was coming behind me. To my surprise... the brake pedal remained engaged all the way down for about half a second before I felt on my feet it came back to normal position. Consequently, the car braked for an additional .5 second, the ABS did not prevent the wheels to lock as I clearly heard the tires. The guy behind me nearly hit my car.
There are not abs or vsa light warning of any malfunction on my tsx06 auto transmission with normal wear Michelin all seasons original tires. Temperature 50f dry pavement concrete on freeway.
Is the "assisted braking" normal or what ?

Sounds like an anomaly. Go out on an empty road and see if this is a repeatable issue.

ABS isn't silent, it makes a variety of pretty unpleasing sounds when it kicks in. Are you sure you were hearing tires, not ABS?

At any rate, this is an opportunity to say, "Go to dealer service, do not pass GO, do not collect $200." Don't take chances with your braking system.

Agreed. ABS is far from quiet. The first time I heard the ABS kick in (in the TSX, vs my other cars with ABS) I thought I dropped the transmission. The signature pedal drop was the only indication of the ABS engagement. It was even worse in my Neon, but it was a first model year and had rear drum brakes. And with the single channel system in the Neon, it was super super jerky.

I've only gotten into the ABS at low speeds in the TSX, so the car's completely stopped by time I let my foot up. But I've seen the same delay in brake disengagement in other vehicles with brake assist. The Chevy Impalla does the same thing. If you hit the brakes hard enough, it takes over and brings down vehicle speed as quickly as possible.

I'd take Marcus's advice on this. Go out onto an empty road and see if you can repeat it. If you can, take it straight to the dealer and have a mechanic drive it and do the same thing with you in the car. If you can, get the shop foreman to go with you. He'd be even better.
