Unsuccessful u-turns turn into 3-point turns.
Sometimes I need to make a u-turn, but don't have enough room to complete the turn; so, I end up making a 3-point turn.
My TSX's electronic reverse lock mechanism SEEMS to be very sensitive, and requires me to be at a dead stop to get into reverse. I've had other manual cars that allow for a bit of roll while engaging reverse.
First question - is my TSX behaving as it should, or should I have the dealer check it out?
Second question - what causes the reverse gear to "whine" ?

You should be at a dead stop before you put it into reverse. Reverse on the TSX does not have synchros, so you'll get a VERY loud and nasty grind if you manage to push it into the reverse gate. If you still want to hear the grind, the electronic lockout is off when your car is moving backwards. Try putting it in reverse when your car is moving backwards at 5mph. It's not a pretty sound. (btw, I seriously advice you not to try it and take my word that it is a very bad sounding grind)

"As it should" depends on your interpretation of how it should behave...
I think that this is normal for a TSX. First, the turn radius is quite large for a car its size; my Pathfinder has a smaller radius than the TSX... Second, the reverse does not engage unless you are almost at a dead stop... my two previous Civics had the same thing.
