Angry U SERIOUS?! What a WONDERFUL FRIDAY!

So thought i'd write this out as i'm more relaxed now. Yesterday I was on my way to work at about 815am, see this red pickup truck behind me that makes the same left turn as i am. Stop light comes up and I'm rolling to stop with everyone else as i see the red truck coming closer and closer and trying to swerve to the left and BAM! Bastard rear ends my poor TSX, did he really just do that?!!

I sit there pissed as hell as the guy comes up and was like are you ok, i say im fine, we pull to a parking lot not to block traffic. From the sound and feel of it, i thought i was in for a rude awakening. We get out, assess the damage while i hear the jackass talk about how he just got new brakes im like are u serious?? he's like 'man i was pumping 'em but wouldn't slow down in time' im like, 'no shit, maybe u wanna get ur 'new' brakes checked out.' I kept my cool tho, even tho i wanted to lose it for a second. Soo i took some pics of the damage of both vehicles with my cam phone as i waited 40 f'in minutes for the cops to show up (mind u that the norfolk police dept. was 2 minutes from where i was).

See this is where i got a bit of joy, to say the least, about the situation:

His truck:

vs. my TSX

I was honestly AMAZED as to the impact the truck took compared to the TSX. i kinda wanted to laugh at him since he took the brunt of the damage with his pickup, but i kept it inside. Damage is minimal, obv bunch of scratches, paint ripped off, and a dent where the left reflector is. His trucks whole right side of the bumper was mashed in n rubbing the tire a bit, whereas my bumper did not move even a inch. But cheers to Acura and their engineering if my rear bumper held up to a rear-ended collision with a pickup truck

Here ends the story of my wonderful friday

What do you guys think about the damage, repair costs (obv he's gonna take care of it), new bumper vs. refinishing, etc.? Got an appt. to get an estimate on Monday at Acura.

My suggestion, take all the money you will get toward repairing that bumper, and use it toward a whole new rear bumper. They'll assess you for a large % of the cost of a new bumper, and putting in the rest yourself to have a 100% fine car is completely worth the cost.

Trust me... my front end after my accident:

And the result after i collected the money and got the parts I wanted:

This kind of damage is almost a given on the TSX and most Honda/Acura vehicles. Assume the worst (Honda tends to use cheap-but-effective-for-one-use materials under the bumper, requiring total replacement after an accident so you bumper repair is probably $1000 - $2000+)

When I was in high school somebody I knew got rear ended by someone else I knew, and they had just gotten new brakes they day before also. It happens. Maybe the mechanic didn't bleed the brakes right.

I got rearended on friday night coming home from the clubs. Actually someone backed into my front and i thought had made some damage there (none-no paint scrapes or anything thanks to 3M!)

Then I was washing the baby yesterday and noticed i was in fact hit in the behind!! I used my dull fingernail to work off the plastic that had assaulted my bumper and then noticed scratches in teh clearcoat, so i used NuFinish Scratch Remover, and now you cant even tell anything happened!

Now please, let me know where i can get some door gaurds asap! (For cheaper than 70)

so an update - got an estimate yesterday from acura, $648 for the bumper cover, paint, and labor. Not bad, but will be covered nonetheless. Hopefully get my car in next week to get it repaired and my baby will be back to normal

FWIW, i believe it is illegal to repair a bumper as it is impossible to guarantee that a repaired bumper will meet federal bumper standards. If the bumper is at all damaged it must be replaced and if the absorber (foam piece behind the bumper) is at all damaged it must be replaced as well. So don't let your insco try to get away with repairing it.

Are you for real? I thought the point of replacing a bumper is that it's cheaper than trying to repair one and do paint matching. Not only that, but bumpers are highly mass produced and the most replaced part on a car, for obvious reasons, and thus are cheaper. $648 to replace a bumper? Geez.

Yup....+$340 or so for the bumper cover it self, then costs for painting, parts, and of course labor all make the price what it is.

I had a similar ding, and it was $250 to get a pro to sand and repaint it. You can't detect it at all. Went through my Acura dealer, and they directed me to the guy who does all their little parking lot dings.

Offset_98, though, gave good advise - make sure that there's no hidden damage underneath.

Yea definitely, they told me they're gonna check it out underneath in case there needs to be additional repairs.
