Hello to erobbins - you bet I'm a racing fan. I own four PSL seats at the speedway and belong to the Speedway Club. I also am fond of F 1 and motorcycle flat track and road course racing.
Would I like to run my car on a road course? Yeah!

Here's two opportunities to drive your car on the full roval (infield course + oval) at Texas Motor Speedway in the next 30 days:
1. Panoz Racing School Track Days
$150 for four 30 minute sessions. Instructors are positioned throughout the track, observing your performance at each corner, and we also do lead/follow (you follow us) through the course as well as "we follow you". Feedback is provided throughout.
Next outing: I believe it's Friday, July 25th.
http://www.panozracingschool.com/TrackDays.asp
Website says $225, but we just did a "Hot Laps" program today, and I asked about availability of the Track Days program coming up. Seats are still available. I believe that if you call the school, they are offering this at $150 (not $225).
We are also running a "Hot Laps" program at TMS, which is structured like what Team Texas / Richard Petty Driving Experience / etc. does on the oval, but a lot less expensive (and on the infield). This program is running this weekend (continues tomorrow (Sunday)). Show up at 8a, 9a, 1p or 2p and go for 2 laps in a Panoz GT-RA as a passenger for free... buy as many laps as you want for $10/lap. You can also drive the cars in a privately-instructed lead-follow for $250 or so at 9a or 2p. This program will also run again in two weeks (the weekend of the 26th/27th). Call the school for details. This is a chance to experience what it is like on a road course in a proper racing vehicle.
Next opportunity at TMS:
2. The Driver's Edge After Dark
When: Saturday, July 26th, 7pm-12am
This is a "first", in that it is a student driver's education program being run at night (yes, the track will be lit).
http://www.thedriversedge.net/afterdark/ad.htm
This is a different structure - you would have an instructor assigned to you and would have them in your car while you drive. Space for beginner drivers is EXTREMELY limited - email the contact listed on that website to inquire.
If you can't get in, Motorsport Ranch in September is a MUCH better track. If you request me as an instructor, they should be able to arrange that if there are enough advanced instructors. I generally handle advanced racing students, in primarily mid and rear engine vehicles, but have instructed people in TLs, RSXs, ITRs, and other FWD cars.
I encourage people to get involved in this sport. It is without a doubt the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

We've got a friend who frequents the CL boards. He has a white TL-S, and went to the last driver's edge event.
He _really_ wants us to attend / participate in the september event, I believe a lot of us will at least be there.
Some of us were also at TMS for the benz c-class test drive, and saw the cars on the track which I assumed were from the panoz racing school. Which cars do you put on the track, the ones that were in your parking lot? Or the NASCAR stock cars?
The ones we saw were the NASCAR ones. The security guy wouldn't let us down on the infield, so we just stood by the hotel for a few minutes.

I strongly encourage people to at least come out to a driver's education event run by a car club or private venture at least once, to learn a little bit about how to drive and to see what their car is capable of (even on street tires). If you don't like it, you never have to come back. But - I caution you... it's likely that you'll catch the bug and become what we call a "track junkie".

Anybody doing any autocrossing? I was going to go out to Mineral Wells but ended up with a conflict (plus it is too far away, really). There is a lot of autocrossing at Pendington (SP?) Field, so we should try to go there sometime soon...

You will drop about $450 on the weekend ($300 event fee, inspection fee, two nights at Hotel 6, food for two days, other stuff). I am thinking of it as a mini-vacation. This time I am bringing my girlfriend and staying in a bed and breakfast in Grandbury (I think???). She will be shopping antiques and I will be drifting through corners...

Planman, lilredtdiwagon, and mantis23 - y'all wanna get together for a beer or something? I have yet to see another TSX on the road in Frisco (or Dallas for that matter) - of course I leave the house at 5 so maybe that's why. Anyway, more Frisco people here than I expected. Take care---Brian
Also, tdiwagon I think I recall seeing you on tdiclub.com - Jetta was my second choice after this car came out.

I don't have a TSX. Can I still hang with you guys? I've seen a couple near Preston & 121 recently. But I've been driving the backup car lately so I generally don't try to wave or anything.
Yeah, we should get together for a beer soon. Name the time & place. Anyone ever go to the down under pub near best buy? I've only been there once.
