Nice car. On the other hand, MAzda parts are very very expensive. I would get the GT model instead of the base model... You get HIDs and LSD.
I'm sure handling will be at the rendez-vous but you may find the RX-8 lacks of engine. Same with the TSX.
Also, the mazda scheduled maintenance cost more than Acura (I have a Mazda and an Acura).
Good luck.

My opinions in a nutshell:
1) Unusable rear seat (for what I do)
2) Underengined, but still a good screamer.
3) Beautiful RWD handling and balance
4) Mazda reliability in question.

I agree about getting the GT but it is $5000 more. I need the back seat for a baby seat, my RSX would fit it but it is a little difficult to get my little guy in it. I'm also worry about reliability, i've been reading the RX-8 forum and there seems to be some issues. But the car looks good and the handleing seems great but repairs could get expensive.

Before I got my TSX, I was hyped on the RX-8....until I physically saw it. Every article I read on the car described it as a "four door sports car". When I saw it at the dealer, I was very dissapointed, for I expected the car to be larger.
The TSX suits my needs perfectly.

If you're getting a Mazda stay away from DOWNTOWN mazda. They tried to take my trade in for -100 bucks (at the end of the year, they offered 700 when mazda gave them an 800 dollar discount)

I had an RX8 it's an awesome car! I took a TSX for a drive before I had the RX8 and after I had it. Before I loved the TSX, after I really felt it was lacking in steering feedback and power.
The TSX is a bigger car though, and if you need the backseats it might be a better choice. If you want an all out sports car though with back seats the RX8 is the ticket.
One thing to remember about the GS RX8 though is no traction control or other aids, you can do doughnuts in just a TEENIE bit of wet pavement which can be dangerous if you aren't ready for it!
One local buy has an RX8 and had a baby seat in it, but he now says it's not really big enough (although would be much better than an RSX), he about a G35 sedan as well to carry the baby in.
Gas mileage isn't the best in the RX8 either, expect to get 300-400 max KM's on 60 liters of fuel, so budget for that.
