TSX on the snow?

Hey All,

I'm new to this forum...I'm about to purchase a new TSX, was wondering if anybody had comments on:

1) How does your TSX handle on the snow/ice?

2) TSX w/ NAVI, MT for $30k out the door, financed at 3.9% for 48 months. Good deal?

Thanks!

Wrong section
30 out the door is kinda high in my opinion...im thinkin 500-1300 that you could shave off and as for the financing that is a good deal.

Regarding your first question. I tested the TSX extensively in a snowed out parking lot and basically what I got was, the VSA really kicks and doesn't allow you to rev past the degree where your tires slip. Brakes work fine, but just do it gradually because the ABS will kick in and it isn't a good feeling for the pedals. Generally, if you are driving normally it handles well. If you past the degree and go to fast, just learn how to countersteer appropriately because the tires don't adhere to snow too well.

For price get at least 29500, they are charging you too much for the actual price of the car. For the financing rate, try to get lower no matter what dealers always try to give you the highest rate regardless of what they tell you. Just pretend to walk out and say "that another dealer offered somebody you know a better rate and price. (of course go in knowing reasonable numbers)"

Horrible in snow. Just a shade better than RWD on summer tires. You even gotta be careful where you park, because you might not be getting out. I am sure it is TSX tires and not the car.

TSX tires are terrible in the dry too. Resign yourself to buying all seasons, or summer + snow. Think if you average three feet or more snow per year, you may need the snows. You now have 12 new tires for your new car! Check the tire forum, maybe all seasons do OK.

The TSX tires do one thing well, they really give you an appreciation for the suspension. You drive around and say, with any other tire, this car would do so much better!

Only turn VSA off if you're stuck and need to spin your tires to get out. VSA reacts far faster than any human can to correct a skid, so leave it on.

Get new tires immediately if you want to drive on the snow.

Get new tires immediately if you want to drive in the rain.

Get new tires immediately if you want to drive on dry roads.

Just get new tires immediately!

Lovely tires! I tested out the rolling resistance of those tires and they do a lot better than the stockers. This means: better fuel economy and higher top speed.

Plus, the WRs are quieter, handle as well, are as comfortable and as a bonus, actually has some pretty respectable winter aptitudes..

That's an excellent price for Navi OTD. 3.9% Is very nice as well.

The TSX handles fine even on stock tires on snow. On ice, like most tires (unless properly equipped), well struggle, but why drive in those situations to begin with?

I've dealth with some bad snow storms and I've come to a conclusion that common sense goes a long way.

Drive slow and with extra caution = You'll be completely fine and will be able to commute with the TSX.

like everyone's said, stock tires are liveable for spring, summer and fall. winter you need winter tires. the stock ones will get you in an accident. oh, and leave VSA on. I only turned it off to do some drifting on the ice this past winter.

I have Nokian RSi's for winter....don't like them in the dry.
I used Kumho SPT's in the summer, like them

As for driving in the winter, awesome with snowtires, slow without.

Used Nokian Hak 2's this winter, and honestly, i felt like a god in the car (note: I am not a god, tires make you feel as if you are) These tires barely lose grip on the snow (not the best on ice but your not exactly going to do a triple axel either) Whenever i thought i was stuck, i managed to get out without doing anything other than work it a bit.

I find the TSX handles well in the snow with the appropriate tires. I go into parking lots and try and spin out the car and it does have difficulties, then there are times where i do have fun with the hand break, cause a spin(180 or more) and manage to gain control almost right away. Bottom line, get some good winter tires and it WILL save your life and the life of others.

I totally agree with turning off the VSA!! Plus buy winter tires!!! A definate must!

I would turn the corner at granny speed and then the VSA would kick-in and I would slide into the snowbank! UGH! I was already driving like a granny because of freezing rain and I was 30 sec from driving into my laneway! I also had the "all-season tires"...

Great in snow and ice

I bought the TSX over the RWD BMW specifically because I ski often in the winter and need a car that handles well in snow and ice (considered the 4WD BMW but didn't like the handling) - WOW - did I ever make the right decision - I put Yokohama IceGuard winter tires on the TSX - we had the worst ice storm in the history of Oregon that first winter and the TSX was amazing - I literally drove on sheer ice, and it felt just like dry pavement - I have never experienced such good traction in winter conditions - so yes, buy winter tires (they extend the life of your all-season tires so there's little added cost over the long run) - and leave VSA on unless you get stuck (which is very unlikely) ...

vsa and MT

yes definatley turn off the VSA in snow covered roads, especially if you have a 6mt. That stupid thing cuts power to the wheels when you need it the most so you can keep going and not get stuck....First thing I do is turn VSA off when I get in the car in all conditions except when it is raining, I feel it affects my take off and use of the clutch....all i need is a steering wheel and 3 peddles, I did fine without VSA before this car..just my
