TSX Shopping in Chicago
I just test drove a TL and a TSX at Continental Acura in Naperville. I like the power of the TL, and the handling and size of the TSX. Tough choice, but I decided to go with the TSX. Continental had a 2004 M6 with Navi, and their price with splash guards, winter floor mats, trunk protector, wheel locks and rear spoiler was $28,500, about $1500 off MSRP (not counting their inflated labor rates for installing accessories) PLUS TAX. Hardly a great deal on a 2004. They also offered me a mediocre trade in on my Audi 2001 S4 (which is in excellent condition, never been hit, detailed every six months, etc). The Audi is paid off, and I was going to pay the difference in cash, do it would of been a quick and easy deal. At that kind of price I may as well wait for a 2005, so I walked. Nice dealer, but way too proud of their TSX.
So first off, who has recently bought at a better price than that in the Chicago area, and if so, how much and from who? I get the impression that I should be able to do much better. Feel free to PM me if you like.
Thanks for the help.

I bought mine (6MT, no navi, splash guards, winter floor mats, trunk protector, and wheel locks) at Muller's Woodfield Acura in Hoffman Estates back in February or thereabouts for $24,000 even, plus tax.
So yeah, you were definitely right to walk away from that one. Prolly more in the neighborhood of $26,000-27,000 would be reasonable for the setup you were quoted on.

Anyway, I went with Libertyville of Acura and they treated me like gold over there. I got my 2004 5AT, no Nav for just 800 over invoice + they gave me $1500 more on my Integra trade in than Muller's. Hope that helps ya. See you on the road

I paid 27,500 in raleigh, nc in june/july it is 6sp w/navi so thats not a good deal at all. i would offer them 27000 or 26800 and tell them you are ready to buy...if they don't give it to you leave your number with them and they might call you accepting that offer

Thanks for the feedback. I just got a quote via email from Libertyville Acura earlier this evening for $28.990 However, I have a couple more dealerships to talk to. I really thought the dealers would be motivated to move the last of the 2004s, but that isn't looking like the case so far. If I'm going to have to pay that close to MSRP for a 2004, why shouldn't I wait for a 2005? Maybe I need to wait until it is closer to the end of the month?
I'll check back when I get the other quotes.

I bought mine there for MSRP last year...

I say avoid the Chicagoland Acura dealers altogether. They are unwilling to negotiate in price and they tend to add on anything that drives up the price of the car.
I bought my TSX in Kansas at Superior Acura. Currently, I am living in St. Louis and I get my car serviced at St. Louis Acura, no problems with their service, unlike Continental Acura and McGrath Acura of Morton Grove which I considered subpar for their service depts.

Brett,
I think DuPage County has the lowest tax for cars, so try to stick in that area.
I've been talking to Dean at McGrath Acura of Westmont, on-and-off for a couple weeks now. Give him a try.

8.something percent sales tax in the Naperville area!! That's a lot!

If you go to delaware, where sales tax is 0%, and bought a car there, they'll still charge you sales tax according to your address.

Good news. I ended up buying a 2004 CGP/Ebony w/ Navi, 6 spd, splash guards, trunk tray, wheel locks, all weather mats and wing spoiler for $28,000 plus tax. After checking around, I think the price is as good as you are going to do in Chicago unless you know someone at a dealership or you want an auto. I bought it a Libertyville Acura. Very nice people to deal with, no B.S. I was in and out of there in less than 45 minutes. They've had the car less than two weeks, so I wonder if it is one of the very last 2004s.
Libertyville Acura also offered me a solid number on the trade in of my S4, but my friend may buy it, so that part is up in air. However, the two deals are not tied together. I'll get the TSX for $28,000 either way.
I'm going to miss the straight line performance of my Audi, but if everything goes as planned, next Spring I'll be picking up another car that will blow the S4 into the weeds. Meanwhile, the TSX is no slouch in the corners, and I can't wait to play with Navi
I'll be picking up the car before the end of the week.
Thanks for all of your help.

My friend couldn't swing buying my S4 right now, so I traded it in. I picked up the car this afternoon and just spent 5 hours cleaning it up (and it is suppose to rain tomorrow).
Here's a quick picture. Please excuse the mess in the garage and the camera lens needs to be cleaned, but its a picture.
