TSX September Sales

September TSX US sales were 2,094 and YTD sales stand at 13,578.

Acura sales are up 2.8% from Sept of last year. However, all models except the MDX are down more than 24% from this time last year. Looks like the new TL came at just the right time.

Does anyone want to do a month-by-month for TSX so far? Would be interesting to see the trend or curve.

Hmm...acording to our latest VIN # thread we are over 16,000. So hows that possible? Or maybe it doesnt count as a sale untill the person takes delivery (which may be in october)?

I doubt it counts as a sale until the car arrives, especially since your deposit is refundable and you can cancel any time before you sign the papers.

I am a newbie, hoping to get a TSX in Dec./Jan., so please forgive me if this is a dumb question.

How many TSX's does Acura plan on making? I thought it was 15K, and according to this thread, they are almost there, with 4 months to go.

The 15k was just a sales goal. They'll make as many as they can sell. Since this is really just an Accord, Honda's got more than enough capacity to make as many as we request. Welcome to the site, and good luck getting yours.

Thanks!

Many of the cars I have had in the past were sometimes a bit harder to get, do to somewhat limited availablilty due to CAFE restrictions, etc...

I figured there was no good reason to limit the production to 15K, but I wan't sure . Thought maybe it was a plant capacity issue.

What's a CAFE restriction?

In another message thread, I suggested the possibility of moving some TSX production to North American assembly plants.

My guess for the 15k goal was to test the waters before fully investing the company into the TSX. I think they realized that they were trying out a car that was pretty similar in price and features to a loaded V6 Accord and right below the TL. They were fitting it into a gap in their product line but its a pretty small gap. By saying this is only a 15k trial run they save face if the product line flops, and if it does well then they can easily ramp up production and make it a long running line pretty easily.

....Or maybe it's the beginning of a down-trend? We'll see.

P.S. Thanks a lot for compiling the data!!!!!

I'll bet the availability of cars had something to do with whatever trend emerges for these first several months. Less cars available for immediate delivery translates to lost sales. I don't have a shred of empirical evidence to back this up but I think demand for TSX is going to remain hot for some time. It's going to be just like the MDX, Honda will never make enough of 'em. I bought mine early last month and while I was doing the paperwork, people were swarming over the MSM one parked in front of the dealership. And I've already I've seen 2 other ones in my little town...

I asked this same question to an Acura salesman up here. He says that Honda is currently manufacturing about 70% auto, 30% manual.

However, up here in Canada, the demand for manuals are surprisingly strong. Next year's run is suppose to be adjusted to somewhere in the neighbourhood of 60-40.

I assume that down in the US, that demand for the auto would be slightly higher -- due to the larger cities and greater traffic congestion.

I've never been able to find detailed model sales statistics for Canada for any manufactuer. I can only tell you that Honda sold about 11,500 cars in Canada in September and Acura 1,909, which was down slightly from last year.

The Civic is on pace to become the best selling car, truck or minivan in Canada for the first time, wrestling that honor away from the Caravan.

CAFE = Corporate Average Fuel Economy. What it means is that automotive manufactures have to hit a corporate, law mandated average fuel economy.

That means if you build too many manual transmission high performance cars that have a lower than the required average, you then have to produce and sell more high mileage economy cars.

This has often been used to restrict the numbers of manual transmission cars available, since todays automatic's tend to get better mileage.

I remember reading here in another thread that the VINs are for all of the JDM Accords and NA model TSX's, so you should expect to see VIN's over 15,000.

As far as who got the 1 TSX in March? My guess would be Wiz.
