TSX safety rating

My wife had an unfortunate encounter with a trailer that jacknifed in front of her...and despite what the car looked after she walked away without injury except for a few minor bruises. this says a lot on the TSX safety!

Ouch. Glad your wife is ok. Looks like the safety tests didn't lie when they said the TSX was a safe car.

Holy moly...I am glad to hear that your wife is ok. I would be scared to drive near those huge trucks after that. Way to go TSX on the saftey!

Good to hear your wife is OK.

Was the car totalled ?
I'm asking because there have been cases (even on this board) where there was a very significant damage to the car and the insurance company still decided to fix the car.

Wow...glad your wife is ok. I hope that I never have to put those safey features to use. Driving near big trucks makes me nervous and this just doesn't help!

I've never seen a car that absorbs this much impact without causing much injury. And, glad that your wife is fine.

Yes the car was totalled. The car was 6 weeks old and had 4300 km. The estimated repair cost were estimated at 33K $CAN and they were not even sure of the end result. I was insured for full value (i.e. replacement cost) and will be picking my new car this coming Monday.

The camping trailer was coming towards her and lost control feet away from her. My wife was going 105 km/h and did not have a chance to even hit the brakes.

Glad your wife is ok! Is she the only one in the car? Looks like the side curtain airbags also deployed. Is that true?

Yes my wife was alone in the car. Both front airbag deployed as well as the side airbag and curtain airbags. I am convinced the side and curtain airbags prevented her from suffering major trauma. these airbags!

To reply to you comment on side curtian airbags.....yes, they probaby did prevent further injury. Head injuries are not the best thing to sustain from an accident. I run with a volunteer rescue squad and although I was not on this particular call I was told that someone (who was not wearing a seat belt) rolled thier car and their head came out of the window (that was down) and the car ended up rolling over on his head. Needless to say he died on the rollover. But back to the point of my little story....the side curtian airbags are worth thier weight in gold as they would have kept that man in the car.

We have a no-fault insurance system in Québec, so nobody can sue anybody; my insurance company has replaced my car with a new one!
