tsx owners with mud/splash guards... damage to car!!

was on tov today and i found a link hinting that the acura mud/splash guards cause more harm than good. i don't have guards on my tsx, but for those of you that do, you might want to check to see if there is any damage.

Or just not take them off once you get them on.

"I have a Tl and no damage has occured after 30'000 miles.
I did have an Odyssey without them where the entire lower panel was trashed after a one long drive through an ice storm where tons of sand were dumped. Like any accesory they are a tradeoff. Any applied plastic part that has any amount of movement will mar the finish. The only way to avoid it is to make them a permanent fixed part of the vehicle or to remove them. If you live in an area with little or no snow I don't see any reason for them anyway"

hmm...

I took mine off the day after I took delivery of my TSX. I did the same thing when I purchased the Integra. My Prelude didn't come with them, so I didn't have to worry. Personally, I don't like mud guards, they don't really protect anything.

Does anyone know if holes had to be drilled to put in the front mud guards? It may do more harm than good to take them off once they have already been installed.

Yes, one hole per side needs to be drilled. But you're not drilling this hole into metal, you're drilling this hole into a clip. So I don't see any harm to take the mud guards off after they have been installed.

For the rear, a hole needs to be drilled on the bumper (one per side). But again, you're not drilling this hole into any metal.

Edited: Here is the instructions for the installation of the splash guards. https://webp6.t3link.com/hondacurawo...lashguards.pdf

I am not sure i know what you mean by drilling into a clip. Whats behind that clip? plastic or metal? does it not go right into the wheel well?

The clip is to hold the fender liner to the fender. The fender already has holes for these clips. What you're doing is drill into the center of the clip, so you won't touch any metal.

I edited my post above and added the instructions from Hondacuraworld.com. That should explain how the splash guards are installed.

Damn! My paint's scratched too! There's a spot that's down to the primer. Son of a b*tch!

I give up.
