TSX Navi with DVD/MP3?

Hey Guys and Gals,
I have had my TSX now for about three weeks and it's time to add my special touches. After searching all the threads about the Navi screen and DVD I have an idea. Consider this:
I already have the factory Acura MP3 player......(worked it in the deal)

This is what I am thinking......
1. Purchase an in-dash DVD/MP3 player from ebay for about $89.00
2. Use the Blitz adapter for sound (simple plug and play with navi) $129.00
3. Hook up rear screens via bolt on mounts-once again ebay at about $175.00
4. When money allows, get the new no-cut video adapter for $250 and finish off the installation for the Navi screen when it's available...

This way, Mp3s are played as well as DVD's. (many more MP3s can be stored on dvd also!). It should fit the brackets that are already there and look as stock as the Acura Mp3 player does. Anybody thought about doing this yet? The stock Acura multimedia player is kinda lame anyhow and really shows no info on the screen at all- except number of songs and time.....

Welcome.

In my consulting for a client who markets mobile video, I have found that many automotive DVD players sound ... well, like crap, when playing CD's and MP3's, and that many of them also sound terrible when using the analog OP and playing a DVD. They seem to depend on the optical OP.

(BTW, I doubt that most of these units, which use the ESS 4300-series of chips, will play MP3 files off of a DVD-R. They might, but I got $5 that says they don't - I'm betting the SW will support MP3 decoding off of CD only).

The better players often do have better sound quality for CD playback and for DVD-audio analog output. For example, there is a 10-disc DVD/CD changer sold by Sony and a number of other manufacturers (Audiovox, Rosen, MobileTV, etc.) which plays CDs... but they sound like crap.

I would suggest looking for the Alpine DVD/MP3/WMA disc player DVA-5210. More money, but it's about to be replaced in the Alpine lineup and so might be going on sale. Also has a great graphical user interface...

With as much quality as they have, I'm sure (meaning that MP3's can suffer both from being over-compressed and from recorded distortion if created with a crappy sound card or at too high or too low a recording level...)
